4ControlofUE/E-UTRANmeasurements
InthischapterthegeneralmeasurementcontrolconceptofthehigherlayersisbrieflydescribedtoprovideanunderstandingonhowL1measurementsareinitiatedandcontrolledbyhigherlayers.
WiththemeasurementspecificationsL1providesmeasurementcapabilitiesfortheUEandE-UTRAN.Thesemeasurementscanbeclassifiedindifferentreportedmeasurementtypes:
intra-frequency,inter-frequency,inter-system,trafficvolume,qualityandUEinternalmeasurements(seetheRRCProtocol[7]).
IntheL1measurementdefinitions,seechapter5,themeasurementsarecategorisedasmeasurementsintheUE(themessagesforthesewillbedescribedintheMACProtocol[6]orRRCProtocol[7]orLPPProtocol[11])ormeasurementsintheE-UTRAN(themessagesforthesewillbedescribedintheFrameProtocolorLPPaProtocol[12]).
Toinitiateaspecificmeasurement,theE-UTRANtransmitsa‘RRCconnectionreconfigurationmessage'totheUEincludingameasurementIDandtype,acommand(setup,modify,release),themeasurementobjects,themeasurementquantity,thereportingquantitiesandthereportingcriteria(periodical/event-triggered),see[7]orE-SMLCtransmitsan‘LPPRequestLocationInformationmessage’toUE,see[11].
WhenthereportingcriteriaarefulfilledtheUEshallanswerwitha'measurementreportmessage'totheE-UTRANincludingthemeasurementIDandtheresultsoran‘LPPProvideLocationInformationmessage’totheE-SMLC,see[11].
