GoingtoaBritishhighschoolforoneyearwasaveryenjoyableandexperienceforme.IwasveryhappywiththeschoolhoursinBritainbecauseschoolstartsaround9endsaboutmeansIcouldgetupanhourlaterthanusual,asschoolsinChinabeginbefore8.
Onthefirstday,allofthenewstudentsattendedanassemblyintheschoolhall.IsatnexttoagirlwhosenamewasDiana.Wesoonbecamebestfriends.Duringtheassembly,theheadmastertoldusabouttherulesoftheschool.Healsotoldusthatthebestwaytoearnrespectwastodevoteourselvestostudyandachievehighgrades.ThissoundedlikemyschoolinChina.
Ihadmanyteachersinthepastyear.MrHeywood,myclassteacher,wasveryhelpful.MyfavouriteteacherwasMissBurke--IlovedthelessonsthatshegaveinEnglishLiterature.Inourclasstherewere28students.ThisisabouttheaveragesizeforBritishschools.Wehadtomovetodifferentclassroomsfordifferentclasses.Wealsohaddifferentstudentsinsomeclasses,soitwasastruggleformetorememberallthefacesandnames.
IfoundthatthehomeworkwasnotasheavyaswhatIusedtogetinmyoldschool.However,itwasabitchallengingformeatfirst,becauseallthehomeworkwasinEnglish.Ifeltlucky,asallmyteachersgavememuchenjoymentandIenjoyedallmysubjects:
English,History,EnglishLiterature,ComputerScience,Maths,Science,PE,Art,CookingandFrench.
MyEnglishimprovedalot,asIusedEnglisheverydayandspentanhoureachdayreadingEnglishbooksinthelibrary.IusuallywenttotheComputerClubduringthelunchbreak,soIcouldsende-mailstomyfamilyandfriendsbackhomeforfree.IalsohadanextraFrenchclassonTuesdayevenings.CookingwasreallyfunasIlearnthowtobuy,prepareandcookfood.Attheendoftermweheldaclasspartyandweallhadtocooksomething.IwasgladthatallmyclassmateswerefondofthecakethatImade.
StudentsatthatschoolhavetostudyMaths,EnglishandScience,butcanstopstudyingsomesubjectsiftheydonotlikethem,forexample,HistoryandFrench.TheycanchooseothersubjectslikeArtandComputerScience,orlanguagessuchasSpanishandGerman.Thoughitdidnotlookverybeautifulwhenitwasfinished,Istilllikeditverymuch.
ImissedChinesefoodalotatlunch.Britishfoodisverydifferent.Britishpeoplelikeeatingdessertattheendoftheirmainmeal.Afterlunch,weusuallyplayedontheschoolfield.SometimesIplayedfootballwiththeboys.SometimesIjustrelaxedunderatreeorsatonthegrass.
Iwasveryluckytoexperiencethisdifferentwayoflife.IlookbackonmytimeintheUKwithsatisfaction,andIreallyhopetogobackandstudyinManchesteragain.
