Someclaimthatitisbeneficialforchildren'sdevelopment.Theymighthavetheirreasonsbecausemostparentsareconvincedthattheirkidsaregiftedgiftsfromthegod.Theypresumethattheearliertheirchildrenareexposedtoarts,themorelikelyitistofindouttheartisticpotentialhiddeninthem.EveniftheirchildrenfailtobecomeanotherchildprodigylikeLangLangorLiYundi,theinterestsinarts,say,inmusic,cultivatedinchildhoodwillbeofgreatvalueintheirwholelife.
Inspiteofthepossiblebenefitsmentioned,I,likeothers,amstronglyagainstit.Themajorharmisthatitmightdeprivechildrenoftheirpleasuretoplayafterschool.Facedwithcompetitionandcontestforbetteruniversities,mostchildrenareburiedinpilesofhomework.Forcingthemtoartclasseswillleavethemlesstimetoenjoythebeautyofthenatureortofindtheirtalentinthingstheyarereallyinterestedin.

TheUKnetworkofBusinessLinksconfirmsthatittoohasseenagrowinginterestinremoteworkingsolutionsfromsmallbusinessesseekingitsadvice,andclaimsthatasmanyas60-70%ofthebusinessesthatcomethrough
itsdoorsnowoffersomeformofremoteworkingsupporttotheirworkforces.
Technologyadvances,includingthewidespreadavailabilityofbroadband,aremakingtheintroductionofremoteworkingapieceofcake.
“Ifsystemsaresetupproperly,staffcanhaveaccesstoalltheresourcestheyhaveintheofficewherevertheyhaveaninternetconnection,”saysAndyPoulton,ebusinessadvisoratBusinessLinkforBerkshireandWiltshire.
“Therearesomeveryexcitingdevelopmentswhichhaveenabledthis.”
Oneistheavailabilityofbroadbandeverywhere,whichnowcoversalmostallofthecountry(BTclaimsthat,byJuly,99.8%ofitsexchangeswillbebroadbandenabled,withalternativeplansinplaceforeventhemostremoteexchanges).“Thisistheenabler,”Poultonsays.

basedinthenortheastofEngland.“Providersofferingbroadbandforrockbottompricesarenotoriousforpoorservice,withregularbreakdownsandheavilycongested(拥堵的)networks.Itisalwaysadvisableforbusinesses

continuityofthecompanyimageforcustomersandbusinesspartners.
Bylaw,companiesmust“considerseriously”requeststoworkflexiblymadebyaparentwithachildundertheageofsix,oradisabledchildunder18.Itwastheneedtoaccommodateemployeeswithyoungchildrenthat

dayintheoffice.Thisisgreatforher,andforusasweretainsomeonehighlyqualified.”
ForWrightVigar,whichhasnowequippedallofitsfeeearnerstobeabletoworkatmaximumproductivitywhenawayfromtheoffices(whetherthatsfromhome,orwhileontheroad),thisstrategyisnotjustabout
savingoncommutetimeorcuttingthemloosefromtheoffice,butenablingthemtoworkmoreflexiblehoursthatfitaroundtheirhomelife.
O‘Hernsays:
“Althoughmostofourworkisclientbasedandmustfitaroundthis,wecantseeanyreasonwhyaparentcantbeonhandtodealwithsomethingimportantathome,iftheyhavetheabilitytocompletea
projectlaterintheday.”
Supportingthisnewwayofworkingcamewithaprice,though.Althoughthefirmwasupdatingitssystemsanyway,thecompanyspent10-15%moreperusertoequipthemwithalaptopratherthanaPC,andaboutthe
sametoupgradetoaserverthatwouldenableremotestafftoconnecttothecompanynetworksandaccessalltheirusualresources.
AlthoughWrightVigarhasntyetquantifiedthebusinessbenefits,itclaimsthat,inadditiontobeingabletoretainkeystaffwithyoungfamilies,itisabletosavefeeearnersasubstantialamountof“dead”timeintheir
workingdays.
Thatstaffcandothiswithoutneedingafixedtelephonelineprovidesevenmoreefficiencysavings.“WithWiFi(fast,wirelessinternetconnections)poppingupallovertheplace,evenontrains,ourfeeearnerscanbe
productiveastheytravel,andbetweenmeetings,insteadofhavingtokilltimeattheshops,”headds.
Thecompanywillalsobeabletoavoidtheexpenseofhavingtorelocatestafftotemporaryofficesforseveralweekswhenitbeginsdisruptiveofficerenovationssoon.
