CarsoncompletedherMaster’sinzoologyinJuneof1932,andwenttoworkatalocalradiostation.HereshewouldwriteeducationalbroadcastsforaweeklyradioshowcalledRomanceUndertheWaters.ThisledhertoherjobattheU.S.BureauofFisheries,andshebecamejustthesecondwomantobeemployedbythebureau.

In1962,Carsonbecamewell-knownwhenhermostfamousbookSilentSpringwaspublished.Thisbookdescribedthenegativeeffectsofpesticidesontheenvironment.Herconcernwithpesticidesdatedbacktothe1940s,butnoonewouldtakeherseriouslyuntilthisbookwasfinallypublishedOnApril14th,1964,Carsonpassedawayduetoaheartattackbutherworktowardspreservingtheenvironmenthascontinuedtothisday.SilentSpringwasevenrepublishedin1994withanintroductionfromthenvice-presidentAlGore.
