Smokingbyhighschoolstudentshasdroppedtoitslowestlevelinadecade(十年),thegovernmentsaidrecently,crediting(归功于)thedecline(减少)tosteep(过高的)cigarettetaxesandschoolprogramsthatdiscouragekidsfrompickingupthehabit.
Just28.5percentofhighschoolstudentsinanationwidesurvey(调查)lastyearreportedthattheyhadsmokedacigaretteinthepreviousmonth--downfrom36.4percentfiveyearsago,theCDCP(CentersforDiseaseControlandPrevention)said.
Therateisthelowestsince1991,when27.5percentofhighschoolstudentssaidtheysmoked.Thefigureclimbedformostofthe1990sbeforereversingin1999.
Freshmen(大学一年级学生),sophomores(大学二年级学生),juniors(大学三年级学生)andseniors(大学四年级学生)allshowedsharpdeclinesfromtheirheightsofthe1990s.Seniorsstillsaidmostoftenthattheysmoked--35.2percent--andfreshmentheleast,at23.9percent.
