Contagious(传染的)yawningisrelatedmorecloselytoaperson’sagethantirednessandenergylevels,US-basedscientistssaid.Researchersarenowlookingatwhethertocatchyawnsfromotherpeopleisabornability,withthehopeofhelpingtreatsomementalhealthdisorders.

DrElizabethCirulli,assistantprofessorofmedicineatDukeUniversityinDurham,NorthCarolina,ledthestudy.Shesaid,“Thisisthefirststudytolookatalargenumberoffactors.Itisthelargeststudy,whenitcomestothenumberofpeopleparticipating,tillnow.”Shesaidshedidnotknowwhycontagiousyawningreducedwithage.
DrCirulliaddedthatalthoughagewasthemostimportantpredictor(预测器)ofcontagiousyawning,only8%ofthechangeinwhetherornotaparticipantyawnedwasexplainedbytheirage.
“Mostofchangeinthecontagiousyawningreactionwasjustnotexplained,”saidDrCirulli.
