Startingin1995,psychologistJeffreyJensenArnettinterviewed300
youngpeopleaged18to29incitiesaroundthenationoverfiveyears,askingthemquestions
aboutwhattheywantedoutoflife.Workingfromthoseinterviewsandexaminingbroad
demographicindicators,Arnettproposedanewperiodoflife-spandevelopmenthecalls
“emergingadulthood”.
