Asemanticapproachtoaframeworkforbusinessdomainsoftwaresystems
Inenterprisefirms,enormousamountsofelectronicdocumentsaregeneratedbybusinessanalystsandotherbusinessdomainapplicationusers.Applicationsthatusethesedocumentsareoftendrivenbybusinesslogicthatishard-codedtogetherwithapplicationlogic.Oneapproachtotheseparationofbusinesslogicfromapplicationsistocreateandmaintainbusinessandinformationextractionrulesinanexternal,user-friendlyformat.Thedrawbackofsuchanexternalizationisthatthebusinessrules,usually,donothavemachineinterpretablesemantics.Thissituationoftenleadstomisinterpretationofdomainanalysisdocuments,whichcaninhibittheproductivityofcomputer-assistedanalyticalworkandtheeffectivenessofbusinesssolutions.Thispaperproposesanontologyandrule-basedframeworkforthedevelopmentofbusinessdomainapplications,whichincludessemanticprocessingofexternalizedbusinessrulesandtosomeextentexternalizationofapplicationlogic.Thecreationofexternalinformationextractionrulesbythebusinessanalystisacumbersomeandtimeconsumingtask.Inordertoovercomethisproblem,theframeworkalsoincludesarulelearningsystemtosemi-automatethegenerationofinformationextractionrulesfromsourcedocumentswiththehelpofmanualannotations.Themainideabehindtheworkpresentedinthispaperistore-engineerverylargeenterpriseinformationsystemstoadapttoSemanticWebcomputingtechniques.Theworkpresentedinthispaperisinspiredbyanindustrialproject.
Understandingfactorsaffectingperceivedsociabilityofsocialsoftware
Sociabilityisconsideredtobeimportanttothesuccessofsocial
software.
Thegoalofthecurrentstudyistoidentifyfactorsthataffecttheusers’perceptionofthesociabilityofsocial
software
andtoexaminetheimpactofsociabilityontheusers’attitudeandbehaviorintentions.Inapilotstudy,35webuserswereinterviewedtogainunderstandingofhowtheyusesocial
software
tosupplementtheirsociallifeandtoexplorethepossiblefactorsthatinfluencetheusers’utilizationofsocial
software.
Inthefirststudy,aquestionnairewasdeveloped,and163validresponseswerecollected.Fromthefactoranalysisresults,sevenimportantfactorsforsocial
software
designemerged,whichaccountsfor63.3%ofthetotalvariance.Inthesecondstudy,246participantswereaskedtoevaluateoneoftenpopularsocialapplicationswithrespecttothesevenfactors,theirperceivedsociability,andtheirattitudesandintentionregardingtheuseoftheapplications.Resultsshowthatsociabilityisinfluencedbysocialclimate,benefitsandpurposes,people,interactionrichness,self-presentation,andsupportforformalinteraction.

competencyisnotasociabilityfactor,butitsignificantlyinfluencestheuser’sexperience.Sociabilityand
system
competency,whencombined,canpredict43%ofusers’attitudetowardssocial
software
and51%oftheirintentionstousesocial
software.

Thepurposeofthisstudyistodescribenursemanagers’perceptionsoftheuseofelectronicinformationsystemsintheirdailywork.Severalkindsofsoftwareareusedforadministrativeandinformationmanagementpurposesinhealthcareorganizations,buttheissuehasbeenstudiedlessfromnursemanagers’perspective.
Methods
Thematerialforthisqualitativestudywasacquiredaccordingtotheprinciplesoffocusgroupinterview.Altogethereightfocusgroupswereheldwith48nursemanagersfrombothprimaryandspecializedhealthcareorganizations.Thenursemanagerswereaskedinfocusgroupstodescribetheuseofinformationsystemsintheirdailyworkinadditiontosomeotherthemes.ThematerialwasanalyzedbyinductivecontentanalysisusingATLAS.ticomputerprogram.
Results
Themaincategory“prosandconsofusinginformationsystemsinnursingmanagement”summarizedthenursemanagers’perceptionsofusingelectronicinformationsystems.Themaincategoryconsistedofthreesub-categories:
(1)nursemanagers’perceptionsoftheuseofinformationtechnology;
(2)usabilityofmanagementinformationsystems;(3)developmentofpersonnelcompetenciesandworkprocesses.
Conclusions
Thenursemanagersmadeseveralcommentsontheimplementationofimmatureelectronicinformationsystemswhichcausedinefficienciesinworkingprocesses.However,theyconsideredelectronicinformationsystemstobeessentialelementsoftheirdailywork.Furthermore,thenursemanagers’descriptionsoftheprosandconsofusinginformationsystemsreflectedpartlytheshortcomingsofstrategicmanagementandlackofcoordinationinhealthcareorganizations.

ThisstudyattemptstogiveaninsighttothecomputeranxietylevelsandattitudestowardcomputersofthestudentsoftheLibraryandInformationSystems(LIS)DepartmentofTechnologicalEducationalInstitute(TEI)ofThessalonikiusingComputerAnxietyRatingScale(CARS)andComputerAttitudesScale(CAS).Bothconstructswereexaminedusingexplanatoryfactoranalysis.Internalconsistencyofthefactorsofeachconstructwassatisfactory.Itwasfoundthattherewasastrongnegativerelationshipbetweenthetwoconcepts.Canonicalcorrelationanalysisdemonstratedthatanxietyexplainsmorevarianceoftheattitudesthanviceversa.AnotherfindingwasthatmostofLISstudentswerenotanxioustowardcomputersandwithpositiveattitudes.Factorscorrelatednegativelywithanxietyandpositivelywithattitudes,wereknowledgeofEnglishlanguage,PCownership,accessofstudentstocomputersatyoungerages,perceivedadvancedcomputerskillsandcomputerexperienceasreflectedbyfrequencyofcomputeruse.

Withthecontinuallyincreasingcomplexityofe-learningenvironments,thereisaneedforintegratingconceptsofcognitiveloadtheory(CLT)withconceptsofhuman–

interaction(HCI).Basicconceptsofbothfieldswerereviewedandcontrasted.Aliteraturereviewwasconductedwithintheliteraturedatabase“TheGuidetoComputingLiterature,”searchingfor“cognitiveloadtheory”and“Sweller.”Sixty-fivepublicationscontained“cognitiveload”intheirtitlesorabstracts.Eachpublicationwascheckedtoseewhetheritcontainedtheconceptsofintrinsic,extraneous,orgermanecognitiveload.ThereviewshowedthatCLTconceptshavebeenadoptedinHCI.However,theconceptofgermanecognitiveloadhasattractedlessattentionuptothepresenttime.Twoconceptualmodelsareproposed.Thefirstmodeldi
