作者簡介
DouglasMacArthur道格拉斯·麥克阿瑟(1880-1964),美國五星上將。
他1903年畢業於西點軍校,其總成績是廿五年來所有學生中的第一名。
1917年,參加第一次世界大戰時,他是遠東部隊中最引人注目、最勇敢無畏的軍官,同時也是受勳最多的軍官之一。
1924至1927年,他在西點軍校擔任校長,為建設美國現代化軍隊作出了重要的貢獻。
1935年被任命為駐菲律賓美軍司令。
在第二次世界大戰期間,負責指揮盟軍於西南太平洋地區作戰。
二次大戰結束後,麥克阿瑟以盟軍最高司令官名義,執行美國單獨占領日本的任務。
朝鮮戰爭期間,他力圖將戰爭擴大到中國,為此與杜魯門總統發生爭執,被解除總司令一職,後於1951年回到美國。
晚年,他以一個戰爭英雄,爲美國人民所崇敬。
1962年,麥克阿瑟在西點軍校接受爲國服務優異的“西爾韋納斯·耶塞奬”表彰。

《聖經》是基督教的經典,是基督教教義、教規、神學理論的依據。
這部書是在1400多年間,由不同作者,在不同時期、不同地方、不同環境中陸續計錄而成的。
《聖經》之所以被基督教徒認為神聖,是因為他們相信作者所寫的一切並非出於自己的意願,而完全是記錄了上帝的默示,是信仰的總綱、處世的規範、永恆的真理。
最初是猶太教徒,後来是基督徒,他們讀了這些記錄後,深受感動,逐漸搜集並保存了這些記錄,匯集成書,並把這部書作為信仰與道德的標凖。
這部書譯成中文時,取其“神聖典範”、“天經地義”的意思,譯為《聖經》。
1604年,英王詹姆士一世(1566-1625)下令成立一個翻譯機構,翻譯一本權威英文譯本《聖經》。
據説當時有54位著名學者參加此項工作,工作了三年,最後由牛津大學的迈爾斯·史密斯統一定稿,於1611年付梓印行。
這本英文《聖經》,語言豐富、文詞優美,文學價值極高,被公認為是英國文學中的鉅著。
本篇是使徒保羅寫給歌林多教會的信。

EmilyDickinson艾蜜莉·狄金森(1830-1886),或譯作狄瑾荪,美國女詩人。
她秉性憂欎孤獨,足不出户,一生過著幾乎與世隔絶的生活。
雖未受過正式教育,但勤奮好學,博覧群書,自學成才。
她寫的詩從不向刊物投稿,不求發表,甚至不在人前顯露。
她寫了二千多首詩,但生前發表的詩,據信不超過七首。
EmilyDickinson去世後,她妹妹在抽屜裡發現大量的手稿,於是代她陸續加以整理。
1890年,出版了她的第一本詩集。
1955年,出版了她的詩歌全集。
她的詩作言簡意深,擅長運用象徵手法描寫平凡的事物或常見的情景,從而成功地表現自己的意志和感情;語言通俗精煉,意象别致清新,常带有神祕氣息和唯美主義色彩。

MartinLutherKing馬丁·路德·金恩(1929-1968),時人稱金恩博士,美國黑人運動的著名領袖,推行非暴力主義理論,同時也是一名基督教牧師。
他出生於黑人牧師家庭,先後在賓西法尼亞大學、哈佛大學和波士頓大學的神學院攻讀神學。
1957年,他聯合六十多個抗議團體,成立了黑人牧師組織“南方基督教領袖大會”,並當選為首任主席。
1964年,他參與、組織爭取就業、爭取自由的“自由進軍”華盛頓示威遊行,此次遊行共有廿五萬人參加。
其間,他提出“黑人應爭得全部自由,否則就没有自由”的論點,並在林肯紀念堂前發表了這篇載入史册的演説。
他終生投身於美國黑人爭取平等權利、反對锺族壓迫的鬥爭,三次被捕,三次遇刺。
1963年,他被美國《時代》週刊選為第一號新聞人物。
1964年,他被授予諾貝爾和平奬。
1968年4月4日,在田納西州孟斐斯城的黑人示威遊行中,他被白人锺族主義分子暗殺。
1983年10月,美國國會通過決議,把他的生日作為國家紀念日。
從此,MartinLutherKing享有美國黑人的最高榮譽。
聯合國祕書長亦宣布,从1987年起,他的生日成為聯合國紀念日之一。

莎士比亞的主要作品有37部戲劇,2首長詩,154首十四行詩。

在他的劇本中,往往交錯实用各锺文類:

JohnD.Rockefeller约翰·洛克斐勒(1839-1937),美國企業家和慈善家,本世紀全美最大也是最著名的壟斷財團——洛克斐勒家族的創始人。
他是第一個看出石油在工業上具有重要意義的人,並在1870年建立了美孚石油公司。
