TheMasterprogramisdesignedbothforstudentswithmathematical（orphysicsandengineering）training,whowanttomakefinancetheirmainfieldofapplication,andforstudentswithaneconomicsorbusiness backgroundwhowanttoacquirethequantitativeskillsessentialforwellroundedtraininginfinance.Ineithercasestudentsmusthaveaninterestin,andbeabletohandlethecombinationofeconomicanalysis,mathematics,econometrics,andcomputersciencethatarepervasiveinmodernfinance.TheFAQforApplicantscontainsmoredetailsontheexpectedbackgroundofapplicants.

ProgramRequirements

Theprogramrequirementsconsistof6corecoursesand10electivecourses,withthefollowingprovisions:

∙∙Atleast5oftheelectivecoursesmustbeatthelevel500orhigher.

∙∙Atleast5oftheelectivecoursesmustbetakenfromList1.

∙∙Theprogramcanbecompletedineithertwoorfoursemesters.Admissionletterswillspecifytheexpectedlengthofstudy.

∙∙Atmost5coursecreditspersemestercanbeearnedtowardsfulfillingtherequirementsoftheprogram.

∙∙Studentscompletingtheprograminoneyear（twosemesters）mustcompleteatotalof10courses.IndividualmeetingsbetweenthestudentandtheDirectorofGraduateStudieswilldetermineonthebasisofcoursespreviouslycompletedbythestudentatPrincetonoranotherinstitutionwhichofthe16coreandelectivecoursesneedtobetakenandwhichwillbewaived.

∙∙StudentsmustmaintainanoverallgradeaverageofB（GPA=3.0）orbetteraswellasearnapassinggradeinallcoreandelectivecourses.

∙∙Incaseastudentcompletesadditionalcoursesbeyondtherequiredtotalnumber,theGPAiscalculatedusingthegradesearnedinthemostfavorablecombinationofcoursesthatstillfulfillstheprogram'scoreandelectiverequirements.

∙∙Auditedcoursescannotbeusedtofulfilltheprogram'srequirements.

∙∙WhilenoMaster’sthesisisrequired,studentsinterestedinindependentresearchmayworkwithaBCF-affiliatedfacultymemberonatopicrelevanttofinance,andbyenrollingintheappropriatecourses（FIN560/561）,theycanreceiveacademiccreditequivalenttooneortwoelectivecourses（therebyreducingthenumberofrequiredelectives）.

Whiletheprogramdoesnotrequireformalworkexperienceasarequirementforadmission,priorworkexperienceprovidesanedgeinthisverycompetitivejobmarketandmorecontextforstudieswhileinourprogram.Ataminimum,weexpectapplicantstohavecompletedoneormoreinternships（forinstanceoverthesummerwhileincollege）.

Weintentionallykeeptheprogramsmallandselectivetomakesurethatwecandevoteindividualattention,bothacademicallyandwhenthetimecomesforjobplacement,toeachoneofourstudents.In2010,wereceived605applicationsandofferedadmissionto31applicants（5%）,with25enrolling（80%）.In2009,wereceived591applicationsandofferedadmissionto24applicants（4%）,with19enrolling（80%）.In2008,wereceived664applicationsandofferedadmissionto40applicants（7%）,with30enrolling（75%）.In2007,wereceived459applicationsandofferedadmissionto48applicants（10%）,with35enrolling（73%）.

No,exceptfortheEnglishlanguagetests（seebelow）.Thissaid,itisobviousthat,ceterisparibus,thehigheryourstandardizedtestscores,thebetteryourchancesofbeingadmitted.OurenteringclasseshavehadamedianGREscoreof790onthequantitativepart（youmaytaketheexammorethanonce,inwhichcaseweconsideryourhighestscore）.TheaveragequantitativeGMATscoresare49.5or95%.Moregenerally,wepayparticularattentiontoyourmathematicsbackground（coursestakenincollege,grades,scoresonthequantitativepartsofthetests,etc.）.Onecommonreasonapplicantsarenotadmittedisthattheirmathematicalbackgroundisnotstrongenoughtoallowthemtobenefitfromourprogram.
