Abstract
Inthispaper,wedealwithatrafficdemandclusteringproblemfordesigningSONET-WDMrings.Theobjectiveistominimizethetotalcostofopticaladd-dropmultiplexers(OADMs)andinter-ringhubequipments,whilesatisfyingintra-ringandinter-ringcapacities.Also,theminimumnumberofnodes,forexamplethree,foreachringshouldbesatisfied.Wedevelopanintegerprogramming(IP)formulationfortheproblemanddevelopsomevalidinequalitiesthatprovideatightlowerboundfortheproblem.Dealingwiththeinherentcomputationalcomplexityoftheproblem,wealsodeviseaneffectivetabusearchprocedureforfindingafeasiblesolutionofgoodqualitywithinreasonablecomputingtime.Computationalresultsareprovidedtodemonstratetheefficacyofthelowerandupperboundproceduresforsolvingtheproblem.

Abstract
Tocoverthecomplexityoffuturesystems,wherethousandsandhundredsofheterogeneouscoreshavetobeinterconnected,newon-chipcommunicationsolutionsarebeingsearched.Inthiscontext,NetworksonChip(NoCs)havebeenstudiedasbusalternative.However,theinclusionofNoCs’broaddesignspaceincreasesevenmorethecomplexityofdesignflows.Additionally,todayelectronicindustrydemandsdrastictimetomarketreductionandimproveddevicediversity.Ontheotherside,reconfigurabledeviceshavehadanimpressiveevolutionandnow,theyarecomplexheterogeneousplatformswhichincludeabroadvarietyofembeddedcores.Furthermore,todayitispossibletoembedreconfigurablearraysinapplication-specificintegratedcircuitsandthuscreatehighlyflexiblesystems.Thesetendenciesprovidesupporttotheideaofreconfigurableon-chipcommunication,whichcanreducethesystemdesigntimeandpermittoadapttheircharacteristicstocurrentlyrunningapplications.ThispaperoverviewssomereconfigurableNoCs’stateoftheartsolutionsanddescribesareconfigurableon-chipcommunicationapproach,calledDRNoC,whichexploresthehighestpossibleflexibilityandisnotlimitedtoNoCs.Animportantaspectconsideredinthispaperisrealimplementationsandtherefore,allthesolutionsdiscussedalongit,includingDRNoC,havebeenvalidatedonFPGAs.ThepaperalsohighlightssometechnologyrestrictionsofcurrentlyavailableFPGAreconfigurationtechniquesthatdonotpermittotestreal-liveexamplesonsuchsystems.

TheboomingofIntegratedCircuit(IC)designservicehasbecomeacriticalsub-industrytotheevolutionofsemiconductorindustry.Inthispaper,wetookthecaseofatieroneICdesignservicecompanytoexplorethecorecompetencesofthisemergingindustry.Sevencorecompetencesaredefinedthroughouttheresearch.Morespecifically,thispaperanalyzesthein-depthoftheinterrelationamongthecorecompetencesbyutilizingtheDEMATELmethod.Theyaredividedintocausalandeffectgroups,enablingreaderstogainabetterunderstandingoftheinteractiverelationshipbetweenthem,aswellasmakingsuggestionsforimprovementtoenhancetheiroverallperformance.TheresulthasshownthattheIntellectualProperty(IP)designcapabilityisthemostimportantcorecompetence.Enhancingfiveofthecorecompetencesinthecausalgroupwillimprovetheoverallperformance.Further,DEMATELmethodisdemonstratedasausefulapproachinexploringtheinterrelationship.

Thenearfieldheattransferbetweentwofinitesizeone-dimensionalphotoniccrystalsseparatedbyasmallvacuumgapandmaintainedinnonequilibriumthermalsituationistheoreticallyinvestigated.Themainfeaturesofthiselectromagnetictransferarediscussedandcomparedwithwhatisgenerallyobservedwithmediathatsupportsurfacepolaritons.ItisshownthatthepresenceofsurfaceBlochwavescansignificantlyenhanceheattransfersbeyondthefarfieldlimitforbothpolarizationstatesofelectromagneticfieldatsubwavelengthseparationdistances.AspecificattentionisaddressedtotheconsequenceoftheslopesofsurfaceBlochwavesdispersioncurvesontheheattransfer.Inparticular,itisshownthatthelocalizationofsurfaceBlochwavesclosetothelightlineallowstoobserveatransferexaltaionatlargerseparationdistancesthantheWienwavelength.Theseresultscouldopennewpossibilitiesforthedevelopmentofinnovativenear-fieldtechnologiessuchasnear-fieldthermophotovoltaicconversion,plasmonassistednanophotolitographyornear-fieldspectroscopy.
