一、选题的背景和意义
GreatExpectationsisoneofCharlesDickens’greatworks,whichmainlydescribestheprotagonistPhilipPip’sunpredictablelife,fromthelowerclasstoupperclass,fromhardlifetolavishlife,andfromthekind-heartedtovanity.Asweallknowthattherearemanyupsanddownsofhumanbeings’life,justliketheoldsayingthatpeopleborntobesufferings.ThereisnodenyingthatGreatExpectationsprofoundlyreflectsthePip’schangeablelifesoastoleadustothinkoflifeseriously.
ConcerningPip’sunpredictablelife,therearemanyfactorsaffectinghislife.Inthepastdecades,anarmyofstudiesandresearchesaboutthefactorshavebeenconductedbyscholars,whichhavemadetremendousprogressinresearchingcharacterdevelopmentofPip.Theyhavefocusedondifferentfactors.Somegroupshaveproposedthathumanfactorsaffecthislife,whereasothergroupshaveproposedthatenvironmentalfactorsaffectlife.Inaddition,therearealsomanyChineseandforeignstudiesandresearcheshavebeencarriedout.MainlyChinesescholarsstudyPip’scharacterdevelopmentfromtheperspectivesofthefactorsaffectedPip’scharacterdevelopmentandgettingmeaningfromtheprocessofPip’scharacterdevelopment.Forexample,WuHao(2012)andLeiPing(2005)pointedoutthattheadvantagesanddisadvantagesofPip’scharacterdevelopment;meanwhile,theyhaveadetailedconclusionthatthevariousfactors,includingtimefactors,humanfactorsandenvironmentfactors,affectedPip’scharacterdevelopment.GuoRong(2009)cameupwiththepointthatthehumanfactorsinfluencedPip’scharacterdevelopment,heconcludedthatMrs.JoeandMr.JoecultivatePip’skindness,MissHavisham’negativeeffectforPip’scharacterdevelopment,MissEstellacausethePip’sgreedyandarroganceandBiddyplayanpositiveeffectonPip’scharacterdevelopment.However,mainlyforeignscholarsfocusmoreonstudyingPip’scharacterdevelopmentfromtheperspectivesofPip’snatureandbelief;Pip’srelationaffectedhischaracterdevelopmentandtheinfluenceofsocialenvironment.Forexample,theAmericanwriterChristorherD.Morris(1987)extendeddirectionofrecentquestioningbyconsideringPip'sbadfaith,healsopointedthatitisadevelopmentprocessofPip’snatureandconscience.JulianMoynahan(1960)analyzedtheambivalenceofPip’stroubledrelationswithallcharacters.
Fromtheabove,theChineseandforeignscholarshavegivenoutmanyoftheirownopinionsaboutthefactorsofPip’sunpredictablelifethroughthewayofanalyzingthefiguresdevelopmentandvariousfactors.Amongtheseopinions,wehavefoundthattherearesomanypeopleanalyzingthecharacterdevelopmentofPipinordertogetmeaningfulinspirationintheprocess.Todate,althoughtheirresearchesincludemanyaspects,theyalsohavesomedeficienciesofcurrentresearch.ScholarsmorefocusonthefactorsofPip’scharacterdevelopment,suchasenvironment,relationsandnature,notmanyofthemanalyzethefactorscomprehensively.Therefore,mypaperwilltrytomakeupthedeficiencies,Iwillgiveacomprehensiveanalysisonthefactorsandmeaningwegetfromtheresearch.
AsfarasI’mconcerned,Pip’scharacterdevelopmentwasaffectedbyagreatmajorityoffactors,henceweshouldtrytogiveacomprehensiveanalysisonthefactors.Onlyifwehaveafullanalysis,canwegetmoreinformationabouthischaracterdevelopment.Thestudyisofeducationalsignificance.Thestudyofcharacterdevelopmentmaygivesomereferencesforparentsandeducatorssincealotofchildrennowadaystendtobelostinlife.
二、研究目标与主要内容
Inthispaper,IwillgiveacomprehensiveanalysisofthefactorsofPip’scharacterdevelopment,andthemeaningwegetfromthisresearch,whichincludingthegradualmatureofgrowthandareferenceforparentstoeducatetheirchildren.

Theresearchwillmakeprimaryuseofliteratureresearch,analyticalmethodandhistoricalanalysisresearchmethods.IwillcollecttheusableChineseandforeignliterature,thenanalyzeandconcludetheliterature.What’smore,inductionandclassificationofusableliteraturesoastobeconvenienttobeusedinmypaper.Inaddition,IwillmakeastudyofGreatexpectations,andanalyzethestory,relations,dialoguesandactsoffigures.Basedonthis,Icanfattenandrationalizethepaper.Theliteraturecollectedwillbeanalyzedwiththemethodofanalyticalmethod.
Thestudywillbeconductedbasedontheensuingprocedures:
1.KeepdoingliteraturestudiesrelatedtoPip’scharacterdevelopmentandassemblingworkingbibliography;
2.Collectdataneededwithliteratureresearchmethod;
3.Analyzedatawiththemethodofanalyticalmethodandhistoricalanalysis;
4.Presenttheresearchresultsandhaveadiscussionbycomparingthemwithpreviousresearchresults.

Firstofall,accordingtoanalysisofmycollectedliterature,weknowthatmostofthescholars,Chineseandforeigners,focusedontheresearchofonlyafractionofthefactorsinPip’scharacterdevelopment.However,inmypaper,IwillgiveacomprehensiveanalysisofPip’scharacterdevelopment.Therefore,IpresenttheinnovationanalysisoffactorsaffectedPip’scharacterdevelopment.
Secondly,Ialsomakeaninnovationinthemethodofanalyzingdata.Manyofscholarsalwaysuseoneoftheanalyzingmethodstocollectliteratureorinformation.Inmypaper,Iwillcombinewiththeanalyticalmethodandhistoricalanalysistoanalyzetheliterature.Basedonthis,Iwillgiveareasonableandsubstantialanalysisofthetopic.
