1.ExecutiveSummary
Aimedatforecastingfuturedemandofurbansightseeingactivitiesduringthegoldenweek,soastoplantourismtransportationlinesmorereasonably,itisnecessarytoinvestigateurbantourismtravelsduringgoldenweektourismperiods.Basedonananalysisoftourismbehavior,surveyedwithinmainsitesinZhengzhou,thispaperfocusesonrevealingthedifferencesoftourismtravelpatternsandcharacteristicsbetweenlocaltouristsandvisitorsfromoutside.Consequently,travelpatternsofthetwokindsoftouristsandthetypicaltourroutesareobtained.Accordingtothesurveydata,thispaperwillshowtheforecastandproposesatransitspecial-linetoconnecttourismcenters,thustoinducetravelmodeswitchingfromcartotransitandtoreducethepressureofurbantransportationduringthegoldenweektourismseasons.
2.Methodology
TheinformationsandtheoriesusedinthisreportwerecollectedfromtheInternetandlookforthebookreferencesinthelibrary.Interviewswithprofessionals,aimstofindsuggestionregardinganalysisandforecastingofthereformof"GoldenWeek"traveldemand.ThechartsarequoteddatumbybooksandInternet.
3.BackgroundoftheGoldenWeekandtourismtransportationinZhengzhou.
3.1WhatisGoldenWeek
GoldenWeekusuallymeanthe“NationDayGoldenWeek”beginsaroundOctober1,andduringthisperiod,threedaysofpaidholidayaregiven,andthesurroundingweekendsarere-arrangedsothatworkersinChinesecompaniesalwayshavesevencontinuousdaysofholiday.ThesenationalholidayswerefirststartedbythegovernmentforthePRC'sNationalDayin1999andareprimarilyintendedtohelpexpandthedomestictourismmarketandimprovethenationalstandardofliving,aswellasallowingpeopletomakelong-distancefamilyvisits.TheGoldenWeeksareconsequentlyperiodsofgreatlyheightenedtravelactivity(LiuZhijie,2006).
In2012,thePRCgovernmentannouncedthatnationalhighwayswouldbetollfreeforGoldenWeek,andasaresult86millionpeopletraveledbyroad(13%increasecomparedtothepreviousyear)(JoeWiesenthal,2012).Thesameyear,theForbiddenCityinBeijinghadanewrecordof182,000visitorswithinonedayonOctober2,theMausoleumofSunYat-senhad215,000visitorsonOctober4(10timesthenumberofvisitorsonanormalbusyday),7.6millionpeopletraveledviadomesticairlines,60.9millionpeopletraveledviarailway,andrevenuesfromtourismtotaledat1.77billionrenminbi(ZoeLi,2012).
3.2TourismtransportationinZhengzhou
Withthedevelopmentofeconomyandtheimprovementofthelivingstandardsofthepeople,thefrequencyoftourismandleisureisincreased,especiallyduringtheGoldenWeek.Thefestivaltripmodeisbecomingmoreabundant.Thetripbehavioriscomplicatedandvarioustoo.Travelindividualizedinclinationdevelopconstantly.Especiallywiththepopularizationofthedrivingtourist,itwillcauseserioustrafficproblemintravelqualityseriously,butalsohasbroughtthenegativeeffecttotheurbanroadandscenicspotsorder.
Inthepastfewyears,transportationinZhengzhouduringtheGoldenWeekalwaysincreasedalotcomparedtoordinarytimes.In2012,duringtheGoldenWeekperiod,exceptthehighwaytravelvehiclesappear"blowout",railway,automobile,civilaviationalsocarriedalargenumberofpassengers,evenmorethantransportduringtheSpringFestival.
Duringthelongholiday,ZhengzhouTransportationGrouptotallysend1.241millionpassengers,upby2.6%year-on-year.Andaround30%oftrafficflowwereaddedcomparedtoordinarytimes.DuringtheGoldenWeekperiod,Zhengzhoucentralbusstationpassengersflowvolumeperdayarearound70,000people,morethanthelevelofSpringFestival50,000people,mostofthemaretourismflows(He,2012).
4.Analysisofthesurvey
Thissurveywasquestionnairefrom100touristswithinsomemainsitesinZhengzhou.Thesechartswillshowbelow:

Accordingtothesetwochartsthattotallynonlocaltravelersarelessthannatives,itcanbeinferredfromthesecondchartthatZhengzhoumiddleclassgosightseeingmorethannonlocalcausefamilyincomefrom30,000yuanto10,000yuan,localfamiliesarefarmorethannonlocaltourists.

Fromthischartitcanbeseenthatmorethanhalfofthenonlocaltravelerstravelmainlyforsightseeing,andlocaltravelers’presentdifferentcharacteristics,butrelaxationandshoppingaretheirfirstandsecondchoice.

Itcanbelearnedfromthischartthatone-daytourcoversmorethan70%oftourists,andsometouristseventravelmorethan6days,whichprobablybeyondtheperiodofGoldenWeek,andthatmeans26%ofthetouristswilllastalonginfluenceoflocaltransportation.

FromtheFig.5thatnearlyallofthelocaltravelersselectDIYtour,andnonlocaltravelersalsohavearound70%chooseDIYtour.ThisphenomenonshowsthattouristswhotraveltoZhengzhoupreferDIYtourratherthangrouptour,itsuggestsflexibleandfreestyletouraremoreattractive.Itisbecauseofthesekindsoftourthatputmuchpressureonurbantransportsystems.

Itisclearfromthechartthatcomparedtotheself-driving,mostofthetravelersdependedmoreonpublictransit.OneofthemostnoticeablefeaturesinthischartisthatBusandBRTrepresent77%and65%oflocalandnonlocaltravelrespectively.HereBRTmeansBusRapidTransit,implyingZhengzhouBusCommunicationCorporationwillbethekeypointoftransportationduringtheGoldenWeekperiod.
Anotherthingwhichstandsoutinthischartisthatlocalresidenttouristsaremoredependentonpublictransportthannonlocaltourists,thisisbecausethelocalresidentsarefamiliarwiththebuslines,andlookingforaparkingspaceintheurbanareaisdifficult.Meanwhile,thesubwaysystemshaven’tbeenestablishedyet,sotouristscannotchoosesubwaytogettoattractions.Besides,nonlocaltouristsusetaxiandothermodesoftransportation(usuallytouristbus)arealsotakingarelativelysmallpartoftourismtransportation.

Accordingtoasurveyforatransitspecial-linetoShaolinTemple,thechartshowsthattherewillbe55%oflocalresidentstakenthisbus,and68%ofnonlocaltouristsprefertotakethisbus.Furthermore,around25%oftouristswillbepotentialusersofthistransitspecial-line,considerthefactoroftheirarrangementandpriceoftickets.Itisobviouslythatsuchkindofspecial-linecanhelpreducethetrafficpressure,becausespecial-linecanmakeefficienttransportation.
5.Forecasting
Basedontheaboveanalysis,thefuturedemandofGoldenWeek’stourismtransportationcanbepredictedasfollows:
5.1Forecastofnumberoftourists
Onthebasisof3.2Tourismtransportation,lastyear’sGoldenWeekZhengzhoucarried1.241millionpassengers,considered2.6%growthrate,therewillbe1.273millionpassengersthisyear’sGoldenWeek.Andaccordingtotheexperiencefrompreviousyears,duringtheGoldenWeek,Zhengzhou’strafficflowwillincreasebyabout30%,sothenumberoftouristswillincrease1.273million/(100%+30%)*30%=0.29millionpassengerscomparedtotheordinarytimes.
AccordingtoFig.1Samplesclassification57%ofthetouristsarelocaland43%ofthetouristsarenonlocal,that1.273million*57%=725,610localresidents,1,273million*43%=547,390nonlocaltourists.
AndaccordingtoFig.6Travelmodechoice,around8%oftheincreasingtouristswouldliketodrivetheirowncars,andmostofthesetouristswouldliketotakepublictransit,77%oflocalresidentsand65%ofnonlocaltourists,socalculatethenumbertherewillbearound58,000localresidentsand43,000nonlocaltouriststravelbycars,andaround558,000localresidentsand355,000nonlocaltouriststravelbypublictransit.Theresultofthepredictedcalculationis
