中国石油大学(北京)校内四六级考试说明及样题
考试时间:
2008年3月21日
1.本次考试属于水平测试,不同于期末考试等结业性考试。
考试严格按照国家大学英语四、六级考试大纲的精神及中国石油大学(北京)关于组织校内四、六级考试的要求进行。
2.试题的题型及难度均参照国家相应考试的要求进行,仅在个别题型上有所调整,具体比例分配如下:

3.复习参考资料:
校内四级考试可以参考《大学英语》全新版综合教程、听说教程和快速阅读教程的第三册和第四册;六级考试在此基础上再加上《大学英语》全新版综合教程、听说教程和快速阅读教程的第五册。
试题难度大体与这些教材的内容相当并符合考试大纲的要求。
4.六级考试的题型与四级一致,只是词汇、听力、阅读等各个单项的要求高于四级的要求,不另制作样题,但可以以此样题作为参考练习。
5.四级、六级考试的时间均为135分钟,中间不收发试卷,只有在考试结束时将试卷及答题卡、答题纸统一收回。
6.考试时需要使用答题卡、2B铅笔(涂答题卡用)、耳机(听力考试用)和黑色钢笔或签字笔,请各位考生提前准备好,以免耽误参加考试。

考试须知
1.本试题分PAPERONE和PAPERTWO两卷,共(14)页;其中PAPERONE为客观题,包括听力、阅读、词汇、完型填空等共(75)道选择题;PAPERTWO为主观题,包括复合式听写、翻译和写作。
两部分合订一起,全卷共(7)大部分,请勿漏做;
2.仔细读懂题目说明,严格按要求答题:
选择题一律做在答题卡上,并用短粗横线(务必按照答题卡上的正确填涂方式填涂,否则后果自负),用其他符号或漏选、多选均作错答处理,建议PAPERONE用铅笔答题;PAPERTWO必须做在相应的答题纸上,使用蓝色或黑色圆珠笔或钢笔答题,答题时须字迹清楚,字体得当,疏密均匀,字迹潦草或涂改严重将扣分;
3.所有答案均须按规定做在相应的答题纸上,做在试题册上无效;
4.听力部分试题录音只放一遍,不得擅自重放录音,否则按作弊论;
5.本考试时间共(135)分钟,请考生适当掌握。
考试终了时间一到,考生立即停止答卷,不得拖延。

Therearenumerousmanifestationsofthiscustom.AtChristmas,forexample,manyfamilieshavespecialwaysofexchanginggifts:

Thanksgivingandbirthdayritualsusuallycenteraroundfood:

Butfamilyritualsarejustaslikelytogrowoutofspontaneousorchanceevents.Onewoman,withoutrealizingit,startedaritualwhensheandherhusbandmadealistoftheirhouseholdpossessionsforafire-insurancepolicy.“WhenthejobwasdoneIsaid,‘Well,weknowwhatthingswehave,butwhataboutintangiblesorabstractthings?

Recognizedasthelargestdesertintheworld,theSaharaDesertextendsacrossNorthAfrica,coveringover3millionsquaremilesfromtheAtlanticCoasttotheNileRiverValley.Exceptforanoccasionaloasis,thisvastandbarrenlandscapeconsistsmainlyofsanddunes,stoneplateaus,surfacegravel,anderodedmountains.Theintensesuncausesdaytimetemperaturestoriseabove135degreesFahrenheitintheshade,anddroughtscommonlylastforyears.However,scientistsaretryingtorestoretheSaharasothatitcansustainlifeasitdidmanyyearsago.
DesertLifeLongAgo
PaintingsfoundonthewallsofcavesintheSaharaDesertsuggestthatafewthousandyearsagolushvegetationthrivedandcoveredthedesertfloor.Manycuriousandunusualinsects,reptiles,birds,andotheranimalshadaccesstofoodsourcesthatallowedthemtogrowandreproduce.Atthattime,hugeriversystemsandmanyoasessupportedgrowingandflourishingcommunitieswheremanypeoplelived.

Researchscientistsbelievethatthelandbecameadesertforthreereasons.Forcenturies,wildernesstribeshavewanderedfromplacetoplaceinsearchoffood,water,andgrazinglandfortheirherdsofanimals.Thesenomadicpeoplehavealwaysconsideredthenumberofanimalstheyhaveasasignofwealth.Itisconsideredmoreimportanttohave100sickandstarvinganimalsthan15healthyones.Thelargeherdshavebeenallowedtoroamfreelyandgrazeondesertplantsandgrass.Overtime,enormoussectionsoflandhavebeenleftexposed,causingsoilerosion.Today,theSaharaDesertisexpandingsouthwardasthesewanderingtribescontinuetoallowtheiranimalstoovergraze.
Inadditiontoallowingovergrazing,thesepeoplecutdownwhatevertreestheycouldfindandusedthemforfirewood.Thesandisunabletoholdontotheintenseheatoftheday,sonighttimetemperaturesoftendropbelowfreezing.Lookingforwarmth,thewildernesstribesstrippedthedesertofwhateverhardyshrubsandstuntedtreesdidgrow.
Astribesmenandanimalsslowlyconsumedanddestroyedthevegetation,nothingwaslefttoholdthesoiltogetherandprotectitfromerosion.Windandraincarriedawaypreciouselements,suchasnitrogen,thatcouldkeepthesoilfertile.
DesertRestoration
ScientistshavebeenexploringdifferentwaystoreviveandrestoretheSaharaDesert.Throughresearchandexperiments,theyhopetobeabletoproducevegetationthatwillonceagainsupportanabundanceoflife.
Hugeaquifersfilledwithlargequantitiesofrainwaterlieundermuchofthedesertsurface.Scientistsbelievethisrainwatersimplyfiltereddownthroughthesandoverhundredsofyearsandcollectedinthesegiant,rockyholdingtanks.Byharnessingthesun'spowerscientistsintheSaharahaveconductedexperimentsinwhichtheygeneratedhugeamountsofelectricity.Thiselectricitywasthenusedtooperatedrillingmachinesandpumpstopulltherainwaterupfromtheaquifers.Bydrillingaholeonemiledeepintothefloorofthedesert,onemachinewasabletorecovermorethan80gallonsofice-coldwatereachsecond,or288,000gallonsperhour.
