瓦尔登湖英文读后感【1】 HenryDavidThoreau(1817-1862),theauthorofWalden,wasborninConcord,Massachusetts.Whenhewasachild,healwayswenttothewoodsandfieldwithhisoldbrother.Sohelovesthenatureverymuch.Inthemiddleof19thcentury,Americaneconomiesdevelopedsorapidlythatmostpeoplepursuitthemateriallifeandignorethespirituallife.ButThoreauwantstoliveasimplelife.AlsofortheTranscendentalistMovementwascenteredinConcordandEmersonhadagreatinfluenceonhim.AllthesemadeThoreaugotobuildacabinontheshoreofWaldenPondandlivealonetoclosetothenaturein1845.Later,hewrotethefamousbook,Walden,whichmainlytalksabouthislifeandthoughtsduringhelivedaloneinthewoodsnearWaldenPond.
WhenWaldenwaspublishedin1854,itwasnotwellacceptedbypeople.Insteaditwasregardedas.

fromexactlyvalue.Everyonedeeplydesiresofthemselveslife.Whenyouknowwhatthevalueofyourselfis,meanwhileyoucanenjoyyourlifeaccordingtothevalueeverytime.Youwillfindthateverydayyouhavefullofenergyandenthusiasmtodoanything,hearthesuresoundfromyourheart,andoftenfeelintenseachievement,themostimportantisthatyourheartispeaceandcalm.
Lastbutnotleast,IenvyThoreausomuchforhelivesinsuchabeautifulandcomfortablenatureenvironment.Hecanbreathethefreshair,livewithwildanimalfriendly;appreciatethesceneryofWaldenPondetc.Whileinmodernsociety,peoplepursuittheirownintereststohuntandkillanimals,cutdowntreesandpollutetheriversandsoon.Asaresult,thenumberofwildlifeisdecreasing,theareaoflakeisshrinking,andthewaterisnotpureanymore.Theenvironmentproblemssuchasglobewarming,climatechangeandairandwaterpollutionhavebeenbecomingincreasinglyserious.Readingthisbookmakesmebeawareofprotectingtheenvironmenttorealizetheharmonybetweenhumanandnature.
Theconceptofresponsibilityisanecessaryfiction.Althoughsocities
mustholdtheirindividualsaccountablefortheirownactions,people'sbehaviorislargelydeterminedbyforcesnotoftheirownmaking.
Ononehand,thehighestsocialanimalashumanbeingis,anyindividualhashisspecificroleinacertainsociety.Andthisspecificrolegivesonesocialidentityandindividualresponsibilitythrougheducationinschoolsandinfluenceofethicalandmoralstandards.Thoughsometimesonewouldfeelthatthecertainresponsibilityisobligationfromthesocietyandorganizationsratherthanhis'individualresponsibility'atfirst,inmostcases,theaccountabilitywouldpresumablybecomeone'sowneventuallyfollowedbythefinalidentificationofhisspecificsocialidentity,andthendirectone'sbehaviorswithouttheforcefromtheexteriorworld.Forexample,asoldierwouldthinkitishisdutytoobeytheruleswithoutanyhesitation;asurgeonwouldconsiderhealingthepatientsashis
accountability;andahistorianwouldfeelitishisresponsibilitytodiscoverwhatisbehindthehistoricaldescriptions.Infact,differentcareersandrolesformdiverseindividualresponsibilities,whichresultinindividuals’voluntarybehaviors.
Ontheotherhand,therearenotonlyspecificindividualresponsibilitiesindiverseareasbutalsosomefundamentalvaluesandaccountabilities,whichweallhumanbeingscherish.Fromthemomentonecanspeakorevenisborn,thesocietybeginstoinstillthemoralandethicalstandards,whichissocalledhumanityineveryone'smind.Theolderoneis,thedeeperinfluencethehumanitywouldbe.Whenoneisjustalittlechild,hewouldgodirectlytowhathelikeandclaimit.Thenwhenheisoldenough,hewouldrealizethatitisincorrectandashamed.Andbecauseoftheawarenessofwhatisrightandwrong,onewouldprobablyneverdoanymisdeedagain.Actually,humanityisjustthecommonindividualresponsibilitysharedbyallofus.
However,everyonelivesinacertainsocietytherebyone'sbehaviorismoreorlessinfluencedbyforcesnotoftheirownmaking.Andtooperatenormally,everysocietyhasitslaws,thoughmanytimeshavedifferencesamongthem.Itistruethathumanityplaysanessentialroleinrulingindividuals'behaviors;yetlawsarenecessary.Underthecontroloflaws,peoplewhohavelittleindividualresponsibilitywouldprobablynotdaretodoanycrimeinfearoflawpunishment.Besideslaws,forexampleinschool,rulesarealsoanimportantfactoraswellasindividualresponsibility.Nowadays,inmostuniversities,astudentwhodoesnotpasssomecertaincoursesinhisfouryearscollegelifewouldnotgethisdiplomaofbachelor'sdegree.Soevenifastudentdoesnotlikehisdiscipline,ordosenotcareabouthisGPA,thepressureofgraduatingforceshimnottoplayingcomputerorbasketballallthetime.
Inaddition,individualresponsibilityandforcesfromoutsideworldhaveoverlappedpartssometimes.Forinstance,studyingdiligentlyissomehard-workingstudents'individualresponsibilityaswellasthepressurefromschoolsandsociety.
