Inadditiontored,yellowandblueLEDlightsonthepavement,“smombies”-smartphonezombies-willbewarnedbylaserbeamprojectedfrompowerpolesandawarningsenttothephonesbyanappthattheyareabouttostepintotraffic.
“Increasingnumberofsmombieaccidentshaveoccurredinpedestriancrossings,sothesezombielightsareessentialtopreventthesepedestrianaccidents,”saidKICTseniorresearcherKimJong-hoon.Driversarewarnedbytheflashinglights,whichhaveshowntobeeffective83.4percentofthetimeintheinstitute’stestsinvolvingabout1,000vehicles.
