However,becauseinthosedayscommunicationswerenotasdevelopedastheyaretoday,manypeopledidnotreceivethenewsforseveralyears.SomepeoplerefusedtoacceptthenewcalendarandcontinuedtocelebratetheNewYearonApril1st.Thesebackwardpeoplewereconsidered“fools”byotherpeople.Theywereoftensenton“fools”errands(徒劳无益的工作)orweremadethetargetsofjokes.
