Secretary-GeneralsmessageonInternationalYouthDayThethemeofthisyearsInternationalYouthDay–“SustainabilityOurChallenge.OurFuture”–isaglobalcalltoactionforyoungmenandwomen.Ourworldfacesmultiple,interconnectedcriseswithsevereandfar-reachingimpactsthatfalldisproportionatelyontheyoung.In2007,forexample,youthcomprised25percentoftheworldsworkingagepopulationyetaccountedfor40percentoftheunemployed.Theglobaleconomicdownturnmeansthat,inthenearterm,youthunemploymentwillcontinuetoclimb.Unemploymentratestellonlypartofthestory,especiallyforthevastmajorityofyouthwholiveindevelopingcountries.Forthem,informal,insecureandlow-wageemploymentisthenorm,nottheexception.Climatechange,meanwhile,continuestocompromiseeconomiesandthreatentremendousupheaval,saddlingyoungpeopleeverywherewithanunjust“ecologicaldebt”.Thisisapotentiallycrushingburden.Atthesametime,Iamencouragedbythecontributionsthatyoungpeoplehavemadetothedebateonclimatechangemitigationandadaptation.Theirviewsandproposalscanhelpbuildthemomentumnecessaryto“sealthedeal”inCopenhagenlaterthisyear.Indeed,youngpeoplehaveproventhemselvestobekeypartnersinsustainabledevelopment.TheyhavegotteninvolvedininternationalforumssuchastheCommissiononSustainableDevelopment,andhavehelpedtheirGovernmentsandcommunitiestoformulatepovertyreductionstrategies,entrepreneurialschemesandmanyotherpoliciesandinitiatives.Youngpeopleoftenleadbyexamplepracticinggreenandhealthylifestyles,orpromotinginnovativeusesofnewtechnologies,suchasmobiledevicesandon-linesocialnetworks.Theydeserveourfullcommitment--fullaccesstoeducation,adequatehealthcare,employmentopportunities,financialservicesandfullparticipationinpubliclife.OnInternationalYouthDay,letusrenewourpledgetosupportyoungpeopleintheirdevelopment.Sustainabilityisthemostpromisingpathforward,andyouthcanleadtheway.在世界土著人国际日的致辞生活在70个国家的3.7亿世界土著人,看护着地球上一些最具生物多样性的地区。

Secretary-GeneralsmessageontheInternationalDayoftheWorldsIndigenousPeopleTheworldsindigenouspeoples–370millionin70countries--arethecustodiansofsomeofthemostbiologicallydiverseareasonearth.Theyspeakamajorityoftheworldslanguages,andtheirtraditionalknowledge,culturaldiversityandsustainablewaysoflifemakeaninvaluablecontributiontotheworldscommonheritage.TheadoptionoftheUNDeclarationontheRightsofIndigenousPeoplesbytheGeneralAssemblyin2007wasalandmarkinthestruggleofindigenouspeoplesforjustice,equalrightsanddevelopment.Therehavealsobeenrecentwelcomestepsatthenationallevel;somegovernmentshaveapologizedtoindigenouspeoplesforpastinjustices,andothershaveadvancedlegislativeandconstitutionalreforms.Still,indigenouspeoplesremainsomeofthemostmarginalizedpopulations,sufferingdisproportionatelyfrompovertyandinadequateaccesstoeducation.Manyfacediscriminationandracismonadailybasis.Alltoooften,theirlanguagesfacestricturesorarethreatenedwithextinction,whiletheirterritoriesaresacrificedformininganddeforestation.Indigenouspeoplesalsotendtosufferfromthelowstandardsofhealthassociatedwithpoverty,malnutrition,environmentalcontaminationandinadequatehealthcare.Withthatinmind,thisyearsobservanceoftheInternationalDayfocusesonthethreatofHIV/AIDS.Itisessentialthatindigenouspeopleshaveaccesstotheinformationandinfrastructurenecessaryfordetection,treatmentandprotection.Insufficientprogressinhealth,inparticular,pointstoapersistentandprofoundgapinmanycountriesbetweentheformalrecognitionofindigenouspeoplesrightsandtheactualsituationontheground.OnthisInternationalDay,IcallonGovernmentsandcivilsocietytoactwithurgencyanddeterminationtoclosethisimplementationgap,infullpartnershipwithindigenouspeoples.关于“我们必须裁军”运动的致辞六十四年前,原子弹坠落在广岛和长崎。

THESECRETARY-GENERALMESSAGEONWORLDPOPULATIONDAYInthemidstoftheworstglobaleconomiccrisisingenerations,wemustfindthemosteffectivewaystocontinueprogresstowardsachievingtheMillenniumDevelopmentGoals.Thereisnobetterpaththanthefocusofthisyear’sWorldPopulationDayinvestinginwomenandgirls.Asbudgetstighten,thecrisisthreatenstowipeouthard-wonprogressinimprovinghealthandreducingpoverty.Whenhouseholdincomesdecline,girlsaremorelikelytodropoutofschool.Whenprofitsdecline,womenaremorelikelytolosetheiremploymentandsourcesofincome.Whenhealthsystemssuffer,womenriskchildbirthwithoutlife-savingservices.Evenbeforethecrisis,amotherdiedeveryminuteinpregnancyandchildbirth,nearlyallindevelopingcountrieswherethecrisishaspushedwomendeeperintopoverty.Investingingirls’educationdeliverswell-knownreturns.Whengirlsareeducated,theyaremorelikelytoearnhigherwagesandobtainbetterjobs,tohavefewerandhealthierchildrenandtoenjoysaferchildbirth.Andinvestinginwomen’shealth,especiallyreproductivehealth,cannotonlysavethelivesofhalfamillionmothers,butalsounleashanestimated15billioninproductivityeachyear.Aswecommemoratethe15thanniversaryoftheInternationalConferenceonPopulationandDevelopment,letusaccelerateeffortstoachieveuniversalaccesstoreproductivehealthby2015.OnthisWorldPopulationDay,Icallondecision-makerstoprotectwomen’sabilitytoearnincome,keeptheirdaughtersinschool,andobtainreproductivehealthinformationandservices,includingvoluntaryfamilyplanning.Together,letusadvancetherightsofwomenandgirls,andempowerthemashighlyproductivemembersofsocietycapableofcontributingtoeconomicrecoveryandgrowth.Therecanbenobetterinvestmentonthisdayoranyother.国际合作社日贺词第一个合作社诞生于两百多年前,当时农村企业家和农民决定集中资源,相互帮助,解决难以获得商机的问题。
