kids,theyremostlikelytoanswerwithpro-skateboarder,surferorminecraftplayer.iaskedmylittlebrother,andhesaid,seriouslydude,im10,ihavenoidea,probablyapro-skier,letsgogetsomeicecream.
see,uskidsaregoingtoanswersomethingwerestokedon,whatwethinkiscool,whatwehaveexperiencewith,andthatstypicallytheoppositeofwhatadultswanttohear.

youdontseemtomakelearninghowtobehappyandhealthyapriorityinourschools,itsseparatefromschools.andforsomekids,itdoesntexistsatall?
butwhatifwedidntmakeitseparate?
whatifwebasededucationonthestudyandpracticeofbeinghappyandhealthy,becausethatswhatitis,apractice,andasimplepracticeatthat?
educationisimportant,butwhyisbeinghappyandhealthynotconsiderededucation,ijustdontgetit.soivebeenstudyingthescienceofbeinghappyandhealthy.itreallycomesdowntopracticingtheseeightthings.exercise,dietandnutrition,timeinnature,contribution,servicetoothers,relationships,recreation,relaxationandstressmanagement,andreligiousorspiritualinvolvement,yes,gotthatone.

shanemcconkeyismyhero.ilovedhimbecausehewastheworldsbestskier.butthen,onedayirealizedwhatireallylovedaboutshane,hewasahacker.notacomputerhacker,hehackedskiing.hiscreativityandinventionsmadeskiingwhatitistoday,andwhyilovetoski.alotofpeoplethinkofhackersasgeekycomputernerdswholiveintheirparentsbasementandspreadcomputerviruses,butidontseeitthatway.
hackersareinnovators,hackersarepeoplewhochallengeandchangethesystemstomakethemworkdifferently,tomakethemworkbetter,itsjusthowtheythink,itsamindset.
imgrowingupinaworldthatneedsmorepeoplewiththehackermindset,andnotjustfortechnology,everythingisupforbeinghacked,evenskiing,eveneducation.sowhetheritsstevejobs,markzuckerbergorshanemcconkeyhavingthehackermindsetcanchangetheworld.
healthy,happy,creativityinthehackermindsetareallalargepartofmyeducation.icallithackschooling,idontuseanyoneparticularcurriculum,andimnotdedicatedtoanyoneparticularapproach,ihackmyeducation.
itakeadvantageofopportunitiesinmycommunity,andthroughanetworkofmyfriendsandfamily.itakeadvantageofopportunitiestoexperiencewhatimlearning,andimnotafraidtolookforshortcutsorhackstogetabetterfasterresult.itslikearemixoramash-upoflearning.itsflexible,opportunistic,anditneverlosessightofmakinghappy,healthyandcreativityapriority.
