PurchasesfromChinaaremorepopularwithyoungerpeopleandwomen,whilepurchasesfromGermanyreceivewarmerwelcomebymenandtheelderly,theinternationalstudyfound.
OnlinemarketplacessuchasAInc,eBayIncandAlibabaGroupHoldingsLtdwerethemostsought-afteravenuesforbuyersfromalmostallcountries,accountingforaroundtwo-thirdsofallcross-borderpurchases,thestudysaid.
Thesurveyalsoindicatedthatclearinformationaboutdeliverycharges,freereturnsandfreedeliveryoveraparticularvalue,werethemostimportantdriversforcross-borderonlineshoppers.
Itfoundthatconsumersweremorelikelytopayapremiumfortrackingratherthanforspeedofdelivery.Theypreferredtopayfordeliveryofatrackeditemthattookfivetoeightdaysfordeliverythananuntrackeditemthattookthreetofourdays.
About70percentofcross-borderonlineshopperswereofferedtrackingand88percentusedit,mostlyintheinterimstage,tocheckondeliveryprogress.
Almostthree-quartersofshoppersusedthepostfortheirmostrecentcross-borderpurchases.Overall,87percentweresatisfiedwiththeirdeliveryexperience.Only6percentreturnedtheircross-borderpurchase,mostlyusingthepostforthereturn.
Thesurveyalsolookedatconsumerdeliveryexperiences,findingthatmostcross-borderpurchaseshadfreeshipping.

“ThoserelativerisksareconsiderablylessthanthoseseeninEuropeandtheUS.Formortality(死亡率)inEuropeweareworkingonasixpercentincreaseper10micrograms.”ThatsuggestsairpollutioninEuropeisabout27timesmoretoxicthanaverageairpollutioninChina.
However,ProfessorKellysaidcitieslikeBeijing,ShanghaiandHongKongwerelikelytosufferfromWestern-styleairpollution."Thenaturaldustcomponentthereisnotofthemagnitudethatitwoulddwarfthecoal,biomassandfossilfuelsignals,”hesaid,“Thatmaybetrueincertaincitieswhosepollutionisnotdominatedbylocalpowergenerationormajortrafficcongestion.”

AreebaHamid,anairpollutioncampaignerwithenvironmentalgroupGreenpeace,said:
“Poisonousaircausesdamagetopeople’shealthwhereverintheworldtheylive.Wenowknowfumesfromdiesel(柴油机)vehiclesarealotmorepoisonousthancarcompaniesclaimedandthisisabigcauseofairpollutioninEuropeandNorthAmerica.Thesecompanieshavealottoanswerfor,butsofarthey’vemanagedtoavoidanyrealaccountability.”
ThestudyofcitiesinChinafoundtheaverageannualexposetoPM2.5was56microgramspercubicmeter,comparedtotheWHOguidelinelimitforsafeairqualityof10micrograms.
Peoplewhowereolderthan75,hadlesseducationorwholivedinhotterplacesweremorelikelytodie.Itisthoughtpeopleinwarmercitiesweremorelikelytospendtimeoutsideorleavetheirwindowsopen,therebybreathingmorepollutedair,theresearcherssaid.Theyalsospeculatedthatlesswelleducatedpeoplemighthavepooreraccesstohealthcareorexperiencepoorerenvironmentalhealthconditions.
