2.living,alive与live
(1)living作定语时,既可置于所修饰的名词之前,也可置于所修饰的名词之后,译为"活着的,当代的"。
在句中充当定语及表语。

Mygrandparentsarestillliving.我的祖父母仍然健在。
(2)alive译为“活着的”,可以在句中作表语及定语。
作定语时,位于它所修饰的名词之后。

那头羊是死了还是活着?
(3)alive还有“活泼的,活动的,有生机的”之意。
例如:

3.worth,worthy与worthwhile
(1)worth意为“值得的”,后接v-ing形式,构成“beworthdoing”结构,也可接表示价格的名词及钱数;
(2)worthy意为“值得的”,后接“of+名词(或being+过去分词)”,构成“beworthyof+名词(或beingdone)”结构或“beworthytobedone”结构。
(3)beworthwhiletodosth/doingsth例如:
Thiscoatisworthonehundredyuan.这件上衣价值一百元。

4.probable/likely/possible的区别:
(1)probable则强调"权衡理由后相信会发生",虽无法确定,但却极有可能发生。
可能性最大。
常用于Itisprobablethat…句型。
(2)likely强调"表面上看起来很可能"。
可能性较小。
常用于以下结构:
(1)主语+be+likely+不定式;
(2)Itis+likely+that从句。
(3)possible则表示发生的可能性极小。
常用于Itispossiblethat…句型。
5mon/general/ordinary/usual/normal/regular
这些形容词都有"普通的,平常的"之意,但有差异。
(1)mon侧重"普通的,常见的",表示普遍存在。
如:
amonsaying俗话。
(2)general侧重"普遍的"之意,表示在大多数人中流行并受到关注。
如thegeneralopinion一般舆论。
(3)ordinary与mon同义,侧重"平凡的,普通的",表示没有什么不同,不值得惊奇。
(4)usual意为"通常的,惯常的",指习惯性做的事情,其反义词为unusual。
(5)normal意为"正常的,一般的"。
(6)regular意为"有规律的,定期往返
6.special/especial/specific/particular/peculiar的异同:
这些形容词均有"特殊的,特别的"之意。
(1)special普通用词,指不同于一般,突出与一般不同,或侧重强调事物的专门性。
(2)especial和special含义很接近,但侧重有特殊意义或重要性。
(3)specific着重指某种事物具有的特殊或特定的属性,也可指专门提出以特别考虑的事物。
(4)particular侧重不同于普遍性的个性或特殊性。
(5)peculiar强调怪异的、不同寻常的。
