英语公众演讲技巧PublicSpeakingSkills-HowToPersuadePeople
PublicSpeakingSkills-HowToPersuadePeoplePersuasionisthekeytoacxxplishment,notonlyforpoliticiansorstockbrokers(股票经纪人),butforeveryoneofus.Inajobinterview,youhavetopersuadeyourinterviewerswhytheyshouldhireyouandnottheothercandidates.Inaclassroompresentation,youhavetoconvinceyourclassmatesandprofessortobelievethatwhatyouaretalkingaboutisworthlisteningto,andyourhardworkdeservesagoodgrade.Inaworkplace,youneedtobeabletopitchyourideaspersuasivelyinordertoprosper(繁荣,昌盛;成功)inyourcareer.Ifyoulookathighlysuccessfulpeople,youwillseethattheyarenotonlyhardworkersandcreativethinkers,butalsogreatpersuaders.

NowimagineBritneySpearssayingthesamething.YouwouldprobablynodatGatesandshrug(耸肩)atSpears,rightYouwouldchoosetotrusthisjudgmentratherthanhersbecauseyouknowthatheisaguru(领袖,专家)ofthexxputerindustryandsheisnot.Thisiscalled"initialcredibility",meaningthecredibilitythatthespeakerhasevenbeforehe/shebeginsspeaking.
Initialcredibilityisablissful(充满喜悦的)advantageforpublicspeakers.Ifyouraudiencealreadyknowsyouareanexpertinsomethingandalreadytrustsyou,youwon'thavetotrysohardtocreatecredibilityinyourspeech.Butwhatifyouarenotreallyanexpertinanythingandyouraudiencedoesn'tevenknowwhoyouareTheanswerissimple:
youwillhavetobuildyourcredibilityduringyourspeech.
HowtoBuildYourCredibility
1.Advertiseyourxxpetence-Atthebeginningofyourpresentation,tellyouraudienceaboutyourexpertiseonthespeechtopic.Ifyouhavedonealotofresearchaboutthetopic,tellthemso.Ifyouhaveacertainexperiencethatgivesyouspecialknowledgeorinsight,goaheadandsayso.Butkeepinmind;youdon'twanttosoundboastful(自夸,自负的)toyouraudience.Donotover-advertiseyourself.Keepitshortandsimple.Sayitasamatteroffact,notaboast.
2.Connecttotheaudience-Trytoidentifywith(认为…等同于,与一致)youraudienceearlyinyourspeech.Evenifyouaregoingtotalkaboutsomethingverycontroversialorsomethingyourlistenersmaydisagreewith,youstillhavetomakethemfeelthatyousharethesamexxmongroundandvalues.
Fouryearsago,IwatchedSenatorJohnKerrygiveaspeechaboutkeepingwoman'srightstoabortioninoneofthe"red"states,inaroom
fullofconservativevoterswhowereprobablystronglyagainstsuchanidea.Atthestartofhisspeech,hemadeaverysmartmovebysayingthathehimselfisalsoatrueChristianwhobelievesabortionisnottherightthingtodo.Thenheexplainedfurtherthateventhoughthatiswhathebelieves,therearealsoalotofpeopleinAmericawhodonotconsiderabortionasinful(有罪的)thing;thereareanumberofAmericanswhoarenotChristiansanddonotsharehisreligiousprinciples.AndsinceAmericaisademocraticcountry,wehavetorespectthosepeople'svaluesaswell.
IthinkSenatorKerrywasimpressivethatday.Byestablishingxxmongroundwiththeaudienceearly,hewasabletogetoffontherightfoot.Idon'tknowhowmanypeopleintheaudiencehehadsuccessfullyconvinced,butatleasthepulledoffthatextremelycontroversialspeechwithsuchpoiseandmoreimportantly,withoutgettingbooed.
3.Speakeloquently(['elkwntli]善辩地;富于表现力地)andexpressyourideaswithconviction-Practiceyourpersuasivespeechaheadoftimesothatyoucanperformitwell.Moderately(适度地;中庸地;有节制地)fastspeakerstendtobeconsideredmoreintelligentandconfidentthanslowspeakers.Ifyousoundhesitantorsay"uh"and"um"toomuch,youwillappearlessxxpetent.
4.Useevidence-Foramateurpublicspeakerswithnoinitialcredibility,
itisveryhelpfultouseexamples,statistics,factsortestimoniestosupporttheirideas.Nomatterwhattypeofevidenceyouuseinyourspeech,justrememberthesetwothings:
First,usespecificevidence.Forexample,ifyouusestatistics,indicatetheexactnumber.Saying"TenmillionAmericanssufferfromobesity"willmakeyourpointmoreeffectivelythanjustsaying"MillionsofAmericanssufferfromobesity."Itwillmakeyourlistenersawarethatyouhaveagoodfirmgripoffactualinformation.Second,alwaysciteevidencefromwell-known,reliableandnon-biasedsources.
5.Reasonclearlyandpersuasively-Evenifyouuseabunchofstrongevidence,youstillwon'tbeabletopersuadeyouraudienceunles
