8.0NDTProcedure
I.X-Ray
1.1DocumentsCompliance
1)TheCFBdocumentandprojectrelevantspecification
1.2PersonnelQualifications
1)AllpeopleengagingintheNDToperationandinspectionshallbequalifiedwiththevalidcertificatesissuedbyBoiler&PressureVesselExaminationDepartmentofChinaLaborMinistry,andthecertifieditemsandgradesshallbecorrespondingtothejobstobeinvolvedintheproject.
2)Asaminimum,2qualifiedNDTsupervisorswithRT-IIGradeshallbeassignedforNDToperationandinspection.
1.3NDTOperationandSupervision
1)Theweldssubjecttoradiographyexaminationshallbevisuallyexaminedatfirst,thenonlytheacceptableweldscanbeallowedforradiographyexamination.Priortotheexamination,thepipingengineerwillprovidetherequestforNDTanddefinethelocationsofweldsforexamination.ThequalityinspectorshallfinalizetheweldsinrandomasperthepercentagerequiredintheTPC’stechnicalspecification,andheshallsigntheRadiographExaminationRequestForm,whichwillbesubmittedtoNDTInspector.
2)ImmediatelyafterreceivingtheRadiographExaminationRequestForm,theNDTInspectorshallverifytherequestwithweldstoberadiographed,andalsoverifytheidentifications,appearancequalityofthewelds.Ifthesearenotinconformancewiththerequest,theRadiographExaminationRequestFormshallbereturnedtopipingengineer.
3)AfterreceivingtheacceptableRequestForm,theNDTInspectorshallarrangeandcarryouttheradiographexaminationstotheweldslocatedbyqualityinspectorincompliancewithrelevantstandardsorTPC’stechnicalspecifications.Thelocatedweldsshallnotbechangedorreplacedbyotherwelds.
4)TheradiographexaminedresultreportsshallbesubmittedtooneNDTSupervisorofRT-IIGradeforevaluation,andanotherRT-IIorhighergradeNDTSupervisorshallbecalledfortheverificationandconfirmation.Furthermore,theNDTEngineershallbecalledtoreviewtheresultreportsanddulysignonthereportsforhisconfirmation.ThecopiesofNDTreportsshallbeturnedtopipingsupervisorandweldingqualityinspector.
5)Thepipingsupervisorshallcheckthereportsandarrangetheremedyfortheunacceptablewelds.Theremediedweldsshallbefirstlysubjecttovisualexamination,ifnodefects,theNDTSupervisorshallberequestedagaintoconducttheradiographexamination.Theweldsofre-examinationshallbespeciallyindicatedonthefilmandNDTreportandlabeledwith“R”tonotethetimesofremedies.Thetechnicalrequirementsforradiographexaminationshallbesameastothepreviousexamination.Fortheadditionalweldstobeexamined,the“K”labelshallbeindicatedonthefilmandreports.
6)WeldsRadiographExaminationOperationandSupervisionDiagramisgivenintheattachmentherewith.
1.4RadiographExaminationEquipmentandFacilities
X-rayDetectionEquipment:
Type2005or2505,Nos.Required:
2~3sets.
StrongLightObservationUnit:
ColdLight,Nos.Required:
2set.
1.5TechnicalRequirementsforRadiographExaminations
1)RadiographImageQuality:
GradeAB(highergrade).
2)AppearanceQuality
Thevisualappearanceoftheweldsandheataffectedzonesshallbesubjecttoexaminationtobeacceptable.Theirregularitiesontheappearanceshallnotaffectorcoverthedefectsindicatedintheimageoffilm.Otherwise,theappearanceofweldsshallbetrimmedproperlytosuittheradiographpenetration.
3)RadiographPenetrationMethods
Forthepipewithborediameterover89mm,theDouble-WallSingleImagePenetrationshallbeusedforexaminationofthebuttwelds.Forthepipewithborediameterupto89mm,theDouble-WallDoubleImagesPenetrationshallbeappliedforexaminationofthebuttwelds.
4)IntensifyingScreen
Theleadintensifyingscreenwillbeusedwithfrontscreenof0.03mmthick,rearscreenof0.1~0.16mmthick.
5)ImageQualityIndicator(IQI)
ThelinearIQIshallbeused,andthetypewillfollowtherequirementsforselectionofIQIspecifiedinrelativeStandard
6)TheThicknessFactorforPenetration

8)LocalizedMarksandIdentifications
a)
Thelocalizedmarkswillindicatetheleadmarksonthepenetratedweldincludingthecentermark(),andlapjointmark().
b)Theidentificationmarkswilluseleadtypealphabetsandnumericsincluding:
JobNo.,WelderIdentifications,LocationNo.,RemedialLocationNo.forre-examinations.TheremediallocationshallbelabeledwithR1,R2…….TheAdditionalexaminedweldsshallbelabeledwithK.
c)Themarksshallbeasaminimum5mmtotheedgeofweld.
9)ParametersforRadiographPenetrations
Theradiographpenetrationcardsshallbepreparedinaccordancewithrelevantspecificationasperthetypeandspecificationoftheworkpiece.
10)EvaluationofWeldingQuality
TheevaluationshallbecarriedoutincompliancewithrelevantStandard.Theweldsshallbefreeofcracks,incompletefusion.Thedoublegrooveandthesinglegrooveweldwithbackingstripshallbefreeofincompletepenetration.Theporosityandstripinclusionshallbeevaluatedaspertherequirementsshowninthestandard.
1.6SafetyProtectionMeasures
1)Theradioactiveareaduringtheradiographexaminationshallbefencedorbarricadedwithlinesandhungwithwarningsignsandbanners.
2)Theradiographexaminationatnightshallbeprovidedwithwarninglight(red).
3)Duringradiographexamination,thespecialpersonshallbeassignedforguardingtoprevententranceofnon-relatedpersons.
4)TheNDTOperatorsshallwearthesuitableradioactivePPE.
5)Othersafetyrequirementsshallfollowtheestablishedfieldsafetyrulesandregulations.
IILIQUIDPENETRATIONEXAMINATION
1ScopeofApplication
1.1Thisprocedureoutlinesthemethodforliquidpenetrationexaminationtobeusedfordetectingdiscontinuitieswhichareopentothesurfaceofnonporousmetals.
1.2ThisprocedurecoverstherequirementsofASMECode,SectionVIIIDiv.1,andsectionVofthelatesteditionsandtheiraddenda.
2PersonnelQualificationAllpersonnelperformingliquidpenetrantexaminationshallbequalifiedinaccordancewithrelevantspecification.
3TypesofMaterialUsedforLiquidPenetrantExamination
Solventremovableliquidpenetrantmaterialsshallbeusedforexamination.ThesematerialsincludeGE-PLpenetrant,GE-WLpenetrantremoverandFGE-DLdeveloper.
4Processing
4.1SurfacePreparationSurfacepreparationbygrinding,orothermethodsmaybenecessarywheresurfaceirregularitiescouldmaskindicationsofunacceptablediscontinuities.
ØPre-cleaningandDrying
Materialssuchasgreaseoroilshallberemovedbysprayingonthesurfacewithremoverandwipingtheexcessfromthesurfacewithcleananddrycloths.Aminimumof5minutesshallbeallowedforthesurfacetodrypriortopenetrateapplication.
ØExaminationTemperature
Theexaminationshallbeperformedatthetemperaturebetween50oFand125oF(10oCto52oC).
ØPenetrateApplication
Thepenetratemaybeappliedbydipping,brushingorspraying,andpenetrateshallremain,inwetcondition,onthesurfaceforatleast10minutes.
4.2Removingexcessivepenetratefromthesurface
●Excessivesolventremovablepenetrateshallberemovedbywipingwithclothorabsorbentpaper.Repeatoperationuntilmosttracesofthepenetratehavebeenremoved.Theremainingtracesofpenetrateshallberemovedbywipingwithclothorabsorbentpapermoistenedwithapenetrateremover.Tominimizeremovalofpenetratefromdiscontinuities,careshallbetakentoavoidtheuseofexcesssolvent.Flushingofthesurfacewithsolventprohibited.
●Dryingtimeafterpenetrateremovalshallbewithin5minutes.
4.3DeveloperApplicationandDevelopingTime
●Thedevelopershallbeappliedassoonaspossibleafterthesurfacehasdried.Thedevelopershallbeappliedbyspraying.Developershouldbeagitatedtoensurethesuspensionofsuspendedparticlesinthesolution.Avoidexcessivecoatingsofdeveloperasitmay“pool”andmaskindications.
●TheExaminationoftestedsurfaceandfinalinterpretationshallbeperformedfrom7to60minutesafterapplicationofdeveloper.
5EvaluationofIndication
ØVisiblepenetrantindicationcanbeinspectedineithernaturalorartificialwhite.Adequateilluminationisrequiredtoensurenolossofsensitivityoftheexamination.
ØAnindicationistheevidenceofmechanicalimperfection.Onlyindicationswithmajordimensiongreaterthan1/16in(1.6mm)shallbeconsideredrelevant.
ØAlinearindicationisonehavealengthgreaterthanthreetimesthewidth.
ØAroundedindicationisoneofthecircularorellipticalshapewiththelengthequaltoorlessthanthreetimesthewidth.
ØAnyquestionableordoubtfulindicationsshallberetestedtodeterminewhethertheyarerelevantornot.
ØAfterevaluationandfinalacceptance,theresidualofpenetrantanddevelopershallberemovedwithsolventandwipingcloths.
6AcceptanceStandard
6.1Allsurfacesexaminedshallbefreeof:
●Relevantlinearindications,
●Relevantroundedindicationswithdimensionsover3/16inch(5.0mm).
●Fourormorerelevantroundedindicationsinalineseparatedby1/16inch(1.6mm)orless(edgetoedge).
●Anindicationofanimperfectionmaybelargerthantheimperfectionthatcausesit,however,thesizeofsuchindicationisthebasisforacceptanceevaluation.
6.2Repairsshallbere-examinedbythesameprocedureusedforthedetectionofthediscontinuities.Acceptabilityofrepairsshallbedeterminedbythesameacceptancestandards.
