Thecontinentsthatwearefamiliarwithtodaywereformedwhenthelandmassbegangraduallydriftingapart,millionsofyearsback.Thisdriftalsohadanimpactontheclimatebecauseitchangedthephysicalfeaturesofthelandmass,theirpositionandthepositionofwaterbodies.Theseparationofthelandmasseschangedtheflowofoceancurrentsandwinds,whichaffectedtheclimate.Thisdriftofthecontinentscontinueseventoday;theHimalayanrangeisrisingbyabout1mm(millimeter)everyyearbecausetheIndianlandmassismovingtowardstheAsianlandmass,slowlybutsteadily.
