YoumayhavenoticedsomethingpeculiaraboutSouthAmericaandAfricaonamapoftheworld.About200millionyearsagotheywerejoinedtogether!

Thecontinentsthatwearefamiliarwithtodaywereformedwhenthelandmassbegangraduallydriftingapart,millionsofyearsback.Thisdriftalsohadanimpactontheclimatebecauseitchangedthephysicalfeaturesofthelandmass,theirpositionandthepositionofwaterbodies.Theseparationofthelandmasseschangedtheflowofoceancurrentsandwinds,whichaffectedtheclimate.Thisdriftofthecontinentscontinueseventoday;theHimalayanrangeisrisingbyabout1mm（millimeter）everyyearbecausetheIndianlandmassismovingtowardstheAsianlandmass,slowlybutsteadily.

Deforestationcancauseflooding.Coastalvegetationlessenstheimpactofwavesandwindsassociatedwithastormsurge.Withoutthisvegetation,coastalvillagesaresusceptibletodamagingfloods.The2008cycloneinMyanmarprovedthisfacttocatastrophiceffect.Scientistsbelievethattheremovalofcoastalmangroveforestsoverthepastdecadecausedthecyclonetohititwithmuchmoreforce.Manyhousesandlivesduetoimpactofthecyclethanusual.Soweneedtoactivelyseekwaystocontrolthischangingclimaticsituation.
