Thecontrolgroupwasaskedtowriteabouttheirfavoritehobbyratherthantheirregret.Then,theywereaskedabouttheirfeelingsofforgiveness,acceptanceandpersonalimprovementfollowingtheexercise.
Theyfoundthattheself-compassiongroupreportedgreaterfeelingsofacceptance,forgivenessandpersonalimprovement,comparedwiththecontrolgroupandtheself-esteemgroup.Inotherwords,focusingonyourbestqualitiesisnotwhathelpsyoufeelbetteraboutaregret.Rather,beingcompassionatetowardyourselfiswhatmaymakeadifference,theresearchersfound.
