Thatglobalwarmingcouldincreasetheriskofdesertlocustcrisiswasproposedovertenyearsago,andinFebruary,theUNSecretary-GeneralAntónioGuterresstatedthatthecurrentoutbreakislinkedtotheeffectsofclimatechange:

“warmerseasmeanmoreperfectbreedinggroundforlocusts”.Theoutbreakhasitsoriginsin2018,whenaseriesofwindstormsintheArabianPeninsula（阿拉伯半岛）enabledthewarmandwetconditionsthedesertlocustrequirestobreedandbandundetectedinremoteregions.Thoughourfocushereismigrationwest,dreadfuloutbreaksofthedesertlocusthavebeenexperiencedtotheeast.

Thesituationisgoingoutofcontrol.Arescueoperationandfinancialsupportadmitnodelay.

TheFoodandAgriculturalOrganization（FAO）cantakeoutonlyUS$138millionforrapidresponseandimmediateaction—controllingthespreadofthedesertlocustandsafeguardinglivelihoods.Theysaythemathsisclear:
