Cognitive(认知的)scientistsatStanfordUniversityinCaliforniasupposedthatchildren'sincompetenceatcolour-wordlearningmaybedirectlylinkedtothewaythesewordsareused
inEnglish.Theyareusedmostlyinpre-nominalposition(e.g."bluecup"),incontrasttopost-nominalposition(e.g."Thecupisblue.")Thedifficultychildrenhavemaysimplycome
downtothechallengeofhavingtomakepredictionsfromcolourwordstotheobjectstheyreferto,ratherthanfromtheobjectstothecolourwords.
