TheInstrumentSocietyofAmerica(ISAhasassignedstandardletterdesignationstoanumberofthermocoupletypeshavingspecifiedemf-temperaturerelations.Thesedesignationsandtheapproximatemetalcompositionswhichmeettherequiredrelations,aswellastheusefultemperatureranges,aregivenbelow:
TypeB(Pt+30%Rhvs.(Pt+6%Rh0to1820°CTypeE(Ni+10%Crvs.(Cu+43%Ni-270to1000°CTypeJFevs.(Cu+43%Ni-210to1200°CTypeK(Ni+10%Crvs.(Ni+2%Al+2%Mn+1%Si-270to1372°CTypeN(Ni+14%Cr+1.5%Sivs.(Ni+4.5%Si+0.1%Mg-270to1300°CTypeR(Pt+13%Rhvs.Pt-50to1768°CTypeS(Pt+10%Rhvs.Pt-50to1768°CTypeTCuvs.(Cu+43%Ni-270to400°CThecompositionsaregiveninweightpercent,andthepositivelegislistedfirst.Itshouldbeemphasizedthatthestandardletterdesignationsdonotimplyaprecisecompositionbutratherthatthespecifiedemf-temperaturerelationissatisfied.
Thefirstsetoftablesbelowlists,foreachthermocoupletype,theemfasafunctionoftemperatureontheInternationalTemperatureScaleof1990(ITS-90.Thecoefficientsintheequationusedtogeneratethetablearealsogiven.Thesecondsetoftablesgivestheinverserelationships,i.e.,thecoefficientsinthepolynomialequationwhichexpressesthetemperatureasafunctionofthermocoupleemf.Theaccuracyoftheseequationsisalsostated.
