TECHNICALFIELD
Thepresentinventionrelatestoapowdercontainer,acleaningmethodandacleaningapparatusforcleaningthepowdercontainer,andmoreparticularlytoapowdercontainer,acleaningmethodandacleaningapparatusforcleaningthepowdercontainerforefficientlyremovingpowdersuchastonerremaininginapowdercontaineroradevelopmentunit,forexample.
BACKGROUNDART
Tonersupplycontainers(e.g.tonerbottles,tonercartridges,developmentunits),whichcontaintonertobesuppliedtoimageformingapparatuses,aredesiredtobereusedforenvironmentalprotectionpurposes.However,theprocessforreusingthetonersupplycontainersresultsinaconsiderablecost.Thecostmainlyconsistsofthecostforrecollectingthetonersupplycontainersandthecostforcleaningthetonersupplycontainers.
Thetoner,whichcannotfulfillvariousprocessconditions,isleftremainingintherecollectedtonersupplycontainers(tonercontainers).Theremainingtonerisusuallyapoorqualitytonerwhichcoagulatesorhasapoorchargingproperty,forexample.Therefore,inordertoensurethequalityoftherecycledtonercontainer,itisnecessarytoremovetheremainingtonerfromthetonercontainerandclean(wash)theinsideofthetonercontainer.
Sincethetonercontainersarecurrentlycleanedatafactoryhavingalarge-sizedfacilitydedicatedforcleaningthetonercontainers,itisdifficulttocleanthetonercontainersatalowcost.Furthermore,sincemanyconventionalcleaningprocessesemployawettypecleaningmethodusingacleaningliquid,theconventionalcleaningprocessiscomplicated.Thisalsoresultsinhighcleaningcost.Furthermore,thewettypecleaningmethodconsumesalargeamountofenergyfordisposingtheusedcleaningliquidanddryingthecleanedtonercontainers.Therefore,thewettypecleaningmethodisnotanidealmethodfromtheaspectofprotectingenvironmentalresources.
JapaneseLaid-OpenPatentApplicationNos.8-173922and11-90368discloseamethodofremovingresidualtonerpowderremaining(adhering)ontheinnerandoutersurfacesofapowdercontainercontainingdrytonerforelectrophotography,forexample.Thismethodemploysacleaningapparatushavinganair-blowingpartforair-blowingtheportionatwhichtheresidualtonerpowderremainsandapowdercollectingpartforcollectingtheair-blownresidualtonerpowder.
Althoughthiscleaningmethodmaybeabletoscattertheresidualtonerpowderadheringtothecontainer,thepowdercollectingpartisunabletothoroughlycollectthescatteredtonerpowderandleavestonerpowderfloatinginsidethecontainer.Furthermore,inacasewherethecontainerismadeof,forexample,resinmaterial,theair-blowingofthetonerpowdercausesfrictiononthecontainersurfaceandchargesthecontainersurface.Theelectrostaticforceofthechargedcontainersurfacecausesminutescatteredtonerpowdertore-adhereandremainontothecontainersurface.
Inordertoimprovetheefficiencyofsuchacleaningmethod,severalconventionalmethodsprovidemultipleoppositelysituatedopeningpartstoadevelopmentunitoracontainer.ExamplesoftheseconventionalmethodsareshowninJapaneseLaid-OpenApplicationNos.7-306576(TonerContainerandCleaningMethod),8-328368(DevelopmentUnitandCleaningUnit),and2000-147878(RecyclingMethodforTonerSupplyContainer).
Theseconventionalmethodscommonlyprovideacleaningmethodinwhichahighpressureairstreamisdeliveredfromoneopeningpartandsuctionedoutfromtheotheropeningpart.Thiscleaningmethodisadrytypecleaningmethodwhichreducesturbulenceoftheairflowinsidethecontainerandgeneratesapowerfultonerremovingforce.
However,theresidualstainremainingonthesurfaceoftheusedtonercontainernotonlyincludesthetonersimplyadheringontothesurfaceofthetonercontainer,butalsoincludesthetonercoagulatedontothesurfaceofthetonercontainerafterextensiveuseofthetonercontainer.Thecoagulatedtonerremainingonthesurfaceofthetonercontainercannotbeeasilyremovedmerelybyblowingairtheretoandthetonercontainerhavingsuchcoagulatedtonercannotbereused.Furthermore,inacasewherethetonercontainerisformedinacomplexshape,airmaynotbesufficientlyappliedtosomeareasinthetonercontainer.Asaresult,tonermayre-adhereontosuchareasandmaybedifficulttoremove.
Inordertosolvethisproblemoftheresidualstain,JapaneseLaid-OpenPatentApplicationNo.2002-268383disclosesacleaningmethodusingacleaningmedium.
Inthiscleaningmethod,agranularmaterial,havingcharacteristicsofbeingeasytosupply/disposeof,isintroducedintoacontainerforallowingresidualtonertobecomeattachedtothegranularmaterialandberemovedfromthecontainersurface.Thisgranularmaterialisreferredtoasacleaningmedium.Oneexampleofthecleaningmediumisaresinball.FIG.1isaschematicdrawingfordescribingastatewhereresidualstain,mainlycomprisingtoner200,isattachedtothesurfaceofaresinball(cleaningmedium)100.Thetoner200isattachedtotheresinball100byelectrostaticforce.Byeliminatingtheelectrostaticforceoftheresinball100,thetoner200canbeseparatedfromtheresinball100.Thereby,theresinball100canbereusedasthecleaningmedium.
Thiscleaningmethodhasthefollowingprobleminacaseofapplyingthismethodtoatonersupplycontainer.
Whenthecleaningmediumisdeliveredintooneopeningpartandoutfromtheotheropeningpartofthetonersupplycontainerasintheair-blowingmethod,thecleaningmediumisunabletothoroughlyreacheverycornerofthecontainerandmayleaveuncovered(untouched)areasinthecontainer.Inordertoallowthecleaningmediumtothoroughlycovertheinternalsurfaceofthecontainer,itisnecessarytoconductabatchprocess(sequentialprocedures)ofintroducingthecleaningmemberintothecontainer,closingtheopeningpartsofthecontainer,andvibratingorshakingthecontainerforacertainperiodoftime.Thisbatchprocessrequiresmanyproceduresandlacksoperatingefficiency.
DISCLOSUREOFINVENTION
Itisageneralobjectofthepresentinventiontoprovideapowdercontainer,acleaningapparatus,andacleaningmethodthatsubstantiallyobviateoneormoreoftheproblemscausedbythelimitationsanddisadvantagesoftherelatedart.
Featuresandadvantagesofthepresentinventionaresetforthinthedescriptionwhichfollows,andinpartwillbecomeapparentfromthedescriptionandtheaccompanyingdrawings,ormaybelearnedbypracticeoftheinventionaccordingtotheteachingsprovidedinthedescription.Objectsaswellasotherfeaturesandadvantagesofthepresentinventioncanberealizedandattainedbyapowdercontainer,acleaningapparatus,andacleaningmethodparticularlypointedoutinthespecificationinsuchfull,clear,concise,andexacttermsastoenableapersonhavingordinaryskillinthearttopracticetheinvention.
Toachievetheseandotheradvantagesandinaccordancewiththepurposeoftheinvention,asembodiedandbroadlydescribedherein,theinventionprovidesacleaningmethodforcleaningapowdercontainerbyintroducingacleaningmediumintothepowdercontainerfromafirstopeningpartofthepowdercontainerforattachingpowderinthepowdercontainertothecleaningmediumanddischargingthecleaningmediumtogetherwiththepowderfromasecondopeningpartsituatedoppositefromthefirstopeningpart,themethodincludingastepof:
releasingthecleaningmediumfromapositionhigherthanthefirstopeningpartofthepowdercontainer.
Furthermore,thepresentinventionprovidesacleaningmethodforcleaningapowdercontainerbyintroducingacleaningmediumintothepowdercontainerfromafirstopeningpartofthepowdercontainerforattachingpowderinthepowdercontainertothecleaningmediumanddischargingthecleaningmediumtogetherwiththepowderfromasecondopeningpartsituatedoppositefromthefirstopeningpart,themethodincludingthestepsof:
mountingpluralitypowdercontainersontopofeachother;andreleasingthecleaningmediumfromapositionhigherthanthefirstopeningpartoftheuppermostpowdercontaineramongthepluralpowdercontainers.
Inthecleaningmethodaccordingtoanembodimentofthepresentinvention,thepowdercontainersmaybemountedontopofeachotherwithoneormorespacersprovidedtherebetween.
Inthecleaningmethodaccordingtoanembodimentofthepresentinvention,thecleaningmethodmayfurtherincludeastepof:
controllingtheflowofthecleaningmediumintroducedintothefirstopeningpartbyprovidingaflowcontrolpartinsidethepowdercontainer.
Inthecleaningmethodaccordingtoanembodimentofthepresentinvention,thecleaningmethodmayfurtherincludeastepof:
controllingtheflowofthecleaningmediumintroducedintothefirstopeningpartbyprovidingaflowcontrolpartinsidethespacer.
Furthermore,thepresentinventionprovidesapowdercontainerincludingafirstopeningpartformedinafirstendplaneofthepowdercontainerforintroducingacleaningmediumtherein;asecondopeningpartformedinasecondendplaneofthepowdercontainerandsituatedoppositefromthefirstopeningpartfordischargingthecleaningmediumfromthepowdercontainer;andaflowcontrolpartforcontrollingtheflowofthecleaningmediumintroducedfromthefirstopeningpart.
