摘 要

Adetailedreportoftheprojectimplementedtosolvetheproblemthatsomestudentscan’tcatchupthemainmeaningofthereadingtext.Itishypothesizedthatstudents’abilityinreadingisimprovedbybetter-designedreadingtasks.Thishypothesisisverifiedbyafour-weekclassroomteachingofthenewlydesignedwordstudyApproachexercises.
Amongthemethodsofscientificinvestigationusedareanalyticmethod,causeanalysis,questionnaire,andbrainstorming.

Ihavebeenteachingthestudentswhoareintheirthirdyearofjuniormiddleschool.TheyarethestudentsofGrade3fromYangHeMiddleSchool..Ioftenmeettheprobleminmyteaching.Somestudentscan’tcatchupwiththemainmeaningofthereadingtext.Thisproblemhastroubledmeforsometime,soIdiscusstheproblemwithmytutor..Weagreedtheproblemisresearchableandtheproblemcanbeimprovedthroughtheteaching.

Inordertofindthereasonoftheproblem,Idesignedaquestionnaire,(seeAppendixA)andsentthemtomystudentstofinishit.Thenextday,Icollectedthequestionnaire.Whenallthesedatacamein,Imadesomestatisticalevaluation.Theresultsshowedthat90%ofthestudentsthoughtthereadingtaskswereveryimportant;Over60%ofthestudentsdidn’tthinktheteachergavethemclearinstructionsabouthowtoread;AndaboutMorethan80%ofthestudentsthoughttheirvocabularywasn’tenough.Becauseoflackingofvocabulary,theycouldn’tcatchupthemainmeaningofthereadingtext.Atthesametime,Ifoundthisproblemwascausedbymetoo,Ididn’tintroducemystudentsaneffectiveway toread.

WhenIwasengagedintheproblemanalysis,IconsultedwithmycolleaguesaboutalltheproblemsImet.TheygavemealotofadviceandhelpsothatIponderedtheproblemmoredeeplyandcarefully.

Readingdevelopsaperson’screativity.Unlikemovieswhereeverythingisdeterminedbytheproducer,writeranddirector,booksallowstudentstocreateintheirmindshowaparticularcharacterlookslikeorimaginehowasceneplaysout.Readingabooktherefore,allowsastudenttoexerciseandcultivateher/hiscreativethinkingskills.
