WearegratefulforyourpurchaseofDelta-phase’sultrasonicflowmeter.
✧Firstreadthisinstructionmanualcarefullyuntilanadequateunderstandingisacquired,andthenproceedtoinstallation,operationandmaintenanceoftheconverter(sensor)oftheultrasonicflowmeter.Wronghandlingmaycauseanaccidentorinjury.
✧Thespecificationsofthisflowmeteriswillbechangedwithoutpriornoticeforfurtherproductimprovement.

1.2PrincipleofOperation
TheAlpha4000AreaVelocityFlowMeterusesasubmerged1MHzDopplersensorandanon-contact47kHzultrasoniclevelsensor,measureslevelandvelocityintwochannelsandcalculateflowbasedonthecurrentlevelandtheformula:
WettedAREAmultipliedtimesVELOCITYequalsflow.
It’soneofyourbestoptionsofflowmeasurementforopenchannelandnon-fullpipewithoutprimarydevice.TheportableversioncouldbeaPortableVelocityMeterforshorttermflowstudiesandsanitarysewerevaluationstudies.
Alpha4000measuresaveragevelocitydirectly,withouttheneedfortimeconsumingflowprofiling,significantlyreducingthecostofinstallationandoperation.
1.3TypicalApplications
ThemeasuringdevicedescribedinthisOperatingInstructionistobeusedonlyformeasuringtheflowoffluidsinclosedpipes.

1.4FlowMeasurementTechniques
Underthecompetitiveindustrialenvironment,theefficiencyofamanufacturingoperationisdirectlylinkedtotheprofitabilityofacompany.Incompanieswherethedailyoperationsinvolvestheuseofliquids,themeasurementofthesecomponentsisnecessary.Theabilitytomakeaccurateflowmeasurementsandcontroltheprocesswillcontributetothesuccessofacompany'soperations.Plantsafety,processcontrol,productionoutputandleakdetectionaretypicalreasonstomeasuretheflowoffluids.
Manyflowmeasurementinstruments,determinetheflowrateindirectlybymeasuringthevelocityordependonthepressuredifferentialthatisforcingtheliquidthroughapipeorconduit.Becausethepipe'scross-sectionalareaisknownandremainsconstant,theaveragevelocityisanindicationoftheflowrate.Thebasicrelationshipbetweentheflowrateandliquidflowinsuchcasesis:

ReynoldsNumbers
Factorsthataffectflowrateincludetheviscosity,density,andthefrictionresultingfromcontactwiththepipe.
AflowmetersperformanceisinfluencedbyadimensionlessnumbercalledtheReynoldsNumber.Itisdefinedastheratioofliquid'sinertialforcestoitsdragforces.

Therateofflowandthespecificgravityareinertiaforces,andthepipediameterandviscosityaredragforces.Thepipe'sinsidediameterandthespecificgravityremainconstantformostliquidapplications.Atverylowvelocitiesorhighviscosity,Rislow,andtheflowrunsinsmoothlayerswiththehighestvelocityatthecenterofthepipeandlowvelocitiesatthepipewallwheretheviscousforcesrestrainit.ThistypeofflowiscalledlaminarflowandtheRvaluesarebelowapproximately2000.Acharacteristicoflaminarflowistheparabolicshapeofitsvelocityprofile.Manyapplicationsinvolveturbulentflow,withRvaluesabove4000.Turbulentflowoccursathighvelocitiesand/orlowviscosity.Theflowbreaksupthesameaveragevelocitiesinthecenterofthepipeaswellasthosenearthepipewall.Undertheseconditionsthevelocityislesssignificant,andthevelocityprofileismuchmoreuniforminshape.Atransitionalorcriticalzoneexistsbetweenturbulentandlaminarflows(R#'s2000-4000typically)Dependingonthepipingconfigurationandotherinstallationconditions,theflowmaybeeitherturbulentorlaminarinthiszone.

1.5SafetyInstructions
Themanufactureracceptsnoliabilityfordamageresultingfromincorrectuseorotherthandesignateduse.
Note:
1)Installation,connectiontotheelectricityunits,commissioningandmaintenanceofthedevicemustbecarriedoutbytrained,qualifiedspecialistsauthorizedtoperformsuchworkbythedevice'sowner-operator.ThespecialistmusthavereadandunderstoodtheOperatingInstructionsandmustcomplytheinstructions.
2)Thedevicemustbeoperatedbypersonsauthorizedandtrainedbytheplantoperator.StrictcompliancewiththeinstructionsintheOperatingInstructionsismandatory.
3)Delta-phaseElectronic.Incwillbewillingtoassistinclarifyingthechemicalresistancepropertiesofpartswettedbyspecialfluids,includingfluidsusedforcleaning.
4)Ifweldingworkisperformedonthepipingsystem,donotgroundtheweldingappliancethroughtheUltrasonicFlowMeter.
5)Theinstallermustensurethatthemeasuringsystemiscorrectlywiredinaccordancewiththewiringdiagrams.Thetransmittermustbegrounded,unlessthepowersupplyisisolated.
6)Generally,localregulationsoftheopeningandrepairofelectricaldevicesarealsoapply.
Operationalsafety
Note:
1)ThemeasuringdevicecomplieswiththegeneralsafetyrequirementsinaccordancewithrequirementsofNEMA4XRecommendation.
2)Themanufacturerreservestherighttomodifytechnicaldatawithoutpriornotice.YourDeltaphasedistributorwillsupplyyouwithcurrentinformationandupdatestotheseOperatingInstructions.
Return
Thefollowingproceduresmustbecarriedoutbeforerepairorcalibration.Forexample,returnedtoDeltaphase:
1)Always,encloseafullycompleted“Declarationofcontamination”form.OnlyinthiswaycanDeltaphasetransport,examineandrepairareturneddevice.
2)Enclosespecialhandlinginstructionsifnecessary,forexampleasafetydatasheet.
3)Removeallfluidresidues.Payspecialattentiontothegroovesforsealsandcreviceswhichcouldcontainfluidresidues.Thisisparticularlyimportantifthefluidishazardoustohealth,e.g.flammable,toxic,caustic,carcinogenic,etc.
Warning:
1)Donotreturnameasuringdeviceifyouarenotsurethatalltracesofhazardoussubstanceshavebeenremoved,e.g.substanceswhichhavepenetratedcrevicesordiffusedthroughplastic.
2)Costsincurredforwastedisposalandinjury(causticburns,etc.)duetoinadequatecleaningwillbechargedtotheowner-operator.
3)Thedevicesaredesignedtomeetstate-of-the-artsafetyrequirements.Theyhavebeentestedandleftthefactoryintheconditionofwhichtheyaresafetooperate.Thedevicescomplywiththeapplicablestandar
