1.Scope
Thisstandardcoverstheconstructionofsupports,whichsupportelectricfacilitiesonoverheadlinesregardlessoftheirnominalvoltages.Thepoleisusuallyusedasasupportandsometimessteelpost,steeltowerandotherkindsofsupportscanbeusedinspecialcases.Inthisstandard,constructionmethodofwoodenpolewillbemainlyintroduced(asforconcretepoleconstruction,itissimilartowoodenpoleconstruction)andconstructionmethodofsteeltowerwillbehandledin66kVSteelTowerpart.

3.ConstructionMethod
3.1Typeofpole
3.1.1Woodenpole
Generallywoodenpoleisusedinoverheadlinesasasupport.Intypesofwoodenpoles,therearelight,mediumandstoutpole.Theirlengthsarevariousaccordingtothevoltagelevel.CharacteristicsofwoodenpolesareintroducedinGDO1000.
3.1.2Concretepole
Awoodenpolecanbereplacedbyaconcretepolewhichhastheequivalentstrengthtothoseofwoodenpoles.
3.1.3Steelpost
Sometimesawoodenoraconcretepolecannotstandtheloadorsecuretherequiredclearance.Then,otherkindofsupportcanbeusedasaoverheadlinesupporttogetthestrengthortheclearance.Firstofall,steelpostcanbeconsideredasasupportinthosespecialcases.Steelpostcanbeusedatthelocationsuchasacrossingvalleywhereawoodenoraconcretepolecannotstandthemechanicalload.
3.1.4Steeltower
Steeltowercanbeusedatthelocationwhereothersupportscannotstandtheloadandcannotgettherequiredclearance.
3.2Location
3.2.1Preferredlocation
Tomaintainthedistributionfacilitiesefficiently,theproperlocationofpoleisveryimportant.Preferredlocationsforpolesareasfollows;
■Accessiblebyliftingequipment
■Nexttopropertycorners
■Minimizethevisualimpactonthesurroundingarea
■Meetingtheclearancesfromtheclearancestandard
■Maintaintherulingspanbetweenpoles,ifpossible
■Easytoexpandthelaterallineandinstalltheguy
3.2.2Avoidablelocation
Tosecurethedistributionfacilitiessafety,settingupthepoleatthenextlocationshouldbeavoided.
■Outsideofaroadcurve
■ClosetobuildingsorstructureswhereconductorswouldviolatethehorizontalclearancesspecifiedinGDO1500(Clearance)
■Rightbehindfirehydrant
■Placewherelimitingtheaccessandusingpartsofpropertyorbuilding
■Withinsidewalks
■Placewhereobscuringoncomingtrafficinintersectionsanddriveways
■Knownforahistoryofvehicleaccidents
■Intheareathatincludesasignificantamountofundergroundutilities
■Placewhereitisweakandworriedaboutcollapse
3.3Polehandling
3.3.1TransportationandStorage
■Theplaceforstoringpolesshallbewhereitdoesn’tgiveaninconveniencetotrafficorpedestrian.Polesaretobefastenedwiththingslikesteelwireinordertopreventpolesfrombreakingawayandshouldn'tbeputonthetopofanother.
■Intheplaceforstoringpoleslikestockyard,thenoticeboardshowingunder-constructionorsafetyfenceshouldbesetupforthepublicsafety.
■Whentransportingpolesfromstockyardtotheworksite,specialcaronlyforcarryingpolesshouldbeused.
■Whenloadingorunloadingpoles,craneorcarry-liftloadershouldbeusedforpreventingpolesfromgettingashock.
3.3.2Inspectionofexternalappearance
Whenacceptingpolesforconstruction,workersshouldinspectfollowingsthoroughlyandcheckwhetherpolesarebadconditionornot.
■Straightness
Thestraightlinebetweenthecenterofthetopandthecenterofthecrosssectionlocatedat1.5mfromthebuttendshallnotstrayfromthesurfaceofthewoodpole
■Insecthole
Noinsectholeshallbefound.
■Decay
Neitherrotnorpunksshallbefound.
■Damage
Theeffectofthedamage,onthestructuralstrengthofthewoodenpole,shallnotexceedtheeffectofanyotherlimitingrequirements.
3.4Foundation
3.4.1Burialdepth
Designengineersshouldsetuppolestostandthemechanicalloadonthepolesbythewindpressureorunbalancebendingmoment.

3.4.2Burialdepthincreasingaccordingtosoilcharacteristics
Theotherfactoraffectingtheburialdepthofpoleisthenatureofsoil.Thestrengthof
soilcanbechangedaccordingtothematerialconsistingofthesoil.Incasethekindofthesoilishardandrigid,depthof‘table1’isenoughfortheburialdepthofthepole.Butifthesoilissoft,normaldepthisn’tenoughfortheburialdepthofthepole.Inthatcaseweshouldincreasetheburialdepth.

3.4.3Burialdepthatspecificregions
Itispossibletosetupthepoleatanunstableregion.Inthatcase,weshouldstrengthenthepolesetting.Oneoftheusefulmethodsistoincreasetheburialdepthofthepole.Ifpolesareinstalledataninclinedareasuchasaslantoftheroad,weshouldincreasetheburialdepth.Iftheburialdepthisnotenoughtosecurethenormalstrengthataspecificregionsuchasarockyarea,weshouldstrengthenthefound
