Morethan25yearsago,MuhammadYunuswasteachingeconomicsatauniversityinBangladeshwhenhemetawomanmakingbamboostoolsfortwoU.S.penniesaday.Sheexplainedthatbecauseshedidn’thavethemoneytobuythebambootomakethestools,shehadtoborrowfromatraderwhoimposedtheconditionthatshehadtoselltheproducttohimalone,atapricethathedecided.
Yunusmadealistof42similarworkersaroundthevillagewhocoulduseverysmallloanstoimprovetheirlives.Thetotalneededbyallthosepeoplewas$27.Afterloaningthemthemoney,hewaspaidbackeverypenny.

Aftermakingmanymoreloansandprovingthatpoorpeoplewouldpaybackeverycent,Yunusstruggledunsuccessfullytofindalocalbankthatwouldlendsmallamountsofmoneytothepoorpeopleinnearbyvillages.Hethenspenttwoyearssettingupaformal,independentbanktodojustthat.OnOct.2,1983,GrameenBankwascreated.

OurbasicmanagementpracticescomefromtheIndustrialAge.Theseinclude:
