ﻩMorestudent thanever beforearetakingagap-year(间隔年)beforegoingtouniversity.It usedtobe calledthe“year off”betweenschoolanduniversity.Thegap-yearphenomenonoriginated(起源)withthemonthsleftovertoOxbridge applicants betweenentrance examsinNovemberandthestartof the nextacademicyear.

Owain James, the presidentoftheNationalUnionofStudents(NUS),arguedthat the increaseisevidenceof studenthad ship–young people arebeingforcedinto earning moneybefore finishing their education. “Newstudentsarenow awarethattheyare likelytoleaveuniversityupto£15,000 indebt.Itisnotsurprisingthat moreandmorestudentsaretakingagapyear to earnmoneytosupporttheir study forthedegree.NUS statisticsshowthatover40%ofstudents are forcedtoworkduringtermtimeandthefigure increasesto90% during vacationperiods,” hesaid.
