Thetermsystematicreviewisusedtorefertoaspecificmethodologyofresearch,developedinordertogatherandevaluatetheavailableevidencepertainingtoafocusedtopic.Itrepresentsasecondarystudythatdependsonprimarystudyresultstobeaccomplished.SeveralprimarystudieshavebeenconductedinthefieldofSoftwareEngineeringinthelastyears,determininganincreasingimprovementinmethodology.However,inmostcasessoftwareisbuiltwithtechnologiesandprocessesforwhichdevelopershaveinsufficientevidencetoconfirmtheirsuitability,limits,qualities,costs,andinherentrisks.ConductingsystematicreviewsinSoftwareEngineeringconsistsinamajormethodologicaltooltoscientificallyimprovethevalidityofassertionsthatcanbemadeinthefieldand,asaconsequence,thereliabilitydegreeofthemethodsthatareemployedfordevelopingsoftwaretechnologiesandsupportingsoftwareprocesses.Thispaperaimsatdiscussingthesignificanceofexperimentalstudies,particularlysystematicreviews,andtheiruseinsupportingsoftwareprocesses.AtemplatedesignedtosupportsystematicreviewsinSoftwareEngineeringispresented,andthedevelopmentofontologiestodescribeknowledgeregardingsuchexperimentalstudiesisalsointroduced.

Pilotdeviceswereinuseonasingledayand,inabout50device-yearsofuse,veryfewtechnicalproblemswerefound.Comparedwithpaper-basedcollection,datavalidationandcleaningtimeswerereduced,andfewererrorswerefound.
PDAdatacollectioniseasytouseandpreferredbyinterviewersandrespondents(bothrespondent-administeredandinterviewer-administered)overpaper.Dataarecompiledandavailablewithinhoursofcollectionfacilitatingdataqualityassurance.Althoughhardwareincreasesthesetupcostofthefirststudy,thecumulativecostfallsthereafter,andconvergesonthecumulativecostofpaper-basedstudies(four,inthecaseofourinterviewer-administeredstudies).
Conclusion
Handhelddatacollectionisanappropriate,affordableandconvenienttechnologyforhealthdatacollection,indiversesettings.
