Mr.Knightleywastodinewiththem--ratheragainsttheinclinationofMr.Woodhouse,whodidnotlikethatanyoneshouldsharewithhiminIsabella'sfirstday.Emma'ssenseofrighthoweverhaddecidedit;andbesidestheconsiderationofwhatwasduetoeachbrother,shehadparticularpleasure,fromthecircumstanceofthelatedisagreementbetweenMr.Knightleyandherself,inprocuringhimtheproperinvitation.
Shehopedtheymightnowbecomefriendsagain.Shethoughtitwastimetomakeup.Making-upindeedwouldnotdo.Shecertainlyhadnotbeeninthewrong,andhewouldneverownthathehad.Concessionmustbeoutofthequestion;butitwastimetoappeartoforgetthattheyhadeverquarrelled;andshehopeditmightratherassisttherestorationoffriendship,thatwhenhecameintotheroomshehadoneofthechildrenwithher--theyoungest,anicelittlegirlabouteightmonthsold,whowasnowmakingherfirstvisittoHartfield,andveryhappytobedancedaboutinheraunt'sarms.Itdidassist;forthoughhebeganwithgravelooksandshortquestions,hewassoonledontotalkofthemallintheusualway,andtotakethechildoutofherarmswithalltheunceremoniousnessofperfectamity.Emmafelttheywerefriendsagain;andtheconvictiongivingheratfirstgreatsatisfaction,andthenalittlesauciness,shecouldnothelpsaying,ashewasadmiringthebaby,

Whiletheywerethuscomfortablyoccupied,Mr.Woodhousewasenjoyingafullflowofhappyregretsandfearfulaffectionwithhisdaughter.
