Salesofprofessionalandpersonalservicerobotsworldwidewereestimatedtohavereachedabout5.5millionthisyear—andareexpectedtomorethandoubleto11.5millionby2011—yetthereislittleornocontroloverhowthesemachinesareused.Somehelpbusyprofessionalsentertainchildren;othermachinesfeedandbathetheelderlyandincapacitated4.
ProfessorNoelSharkey,anexpertonartificialintelligencebasedattheUniversityofSheffield,warnsthatrobotsarebeingintroducedtopotentiallysensitivesituationsthatcouldleadtoisolationandlackofhumancontact,becauseofthetendencytoleaverobotsalonewiththeircharges5forlongperiods.
“Weneedtolookatguidelinesforacut-off6sowehavealimittothecontactwithrobots,”ProfessorSharkeysaid.“Somerobotsdesignedtolookafterchildrennowaresosafethatparentscanleavetheirchildrenwiththemforhours,orevendays.”机器人决不是快来了,它们已经来了。

一位卓有造诣的科学家告诫大众,机器人在家庭、工作场所和战争中的兴起必须受到伦理规范的监督和控制,对机器人在一些敏感情境———比如看小孩、照顾老人以及作战———中的运用加以限定。
据估算,全球专业机器人和个人服务型机器人的销量今年已近550万台,并有望到2011年增长一倍多,达到1150万台。
然而,目前对如何使用这些机器人则很少或根本没有加以控制。
一些机器人代替忙碌的职业人士陪孩子玩儿,另外一些则帮助老年人和残疾人进食和洗澡。
谢菲尔德大学的人工智能专家诺埃尔·夏基教授警告说,机器人正被引入潜在的敏感情境中,这可能会导致(被服务者)与世隔绝的状态,因为人们在给机器人设定指令后,往往很长时间不再问津。
夏基教授说:
“我们必须考虑以规范来规定一个截止点,以便使与机器人的接触有个限度。

“Researchintoservicerobotshasdemonstratedaclosebondingandattachmentbychildren,who,inmostcases,preferarobottoateddybear,”ProfessorSharkeysaid.“Short-termexposurecanprovideanenjoyableandentertainingexperiencethatcreatesinterestandcuriosity.Butbecauseofthephysicalsafetythatrobotminders7provide,childrencouldbeleftwithouthumancontactformanyhoursadayorperhapsseveraldays,andthepossiblepsychologicalimpactofthevaryingdegreesofsocialisolationondevelopmentisunknown.”Lessplayfulrobotsarebeingdevelopedtolookafterelderlypeople.SecommakesacomputercalledMySpoonwhichhelpsdisabledpeopletoeatfoodfromatable.Sanyohasbuiltanelectricbathtub8robotthatautomaticallywashesandrinses9someonesufferingfrommovementdisability.
“Attheotherendoftheagespectrum[tochildcare],therelativeincreaseinmanycountriesinthepopulationoftheelderlyrelativetoavailableyoungercare-givershasspurredthedevelopmentofelder-carerobots,”ProfessorSharkeysaid.“Theserobotscanhelptheelderlytomaintainindependenceintheirownhomes,buttheirpresencecouldleadtotheriskofleavingtheelderlyintheexclusivecareofmachineswithoutsufficienthumancontact.Theelderlyneedthehumancontactthatisoftenprovidedonlybycaregiversandpeopleperformingday-to-daytasksforthem.”
InthejournalScience,ProfessorSharkeycallsforethicalguidelinestocoverallaspectsofrobotictechnology,notjustinthehomeandworkplace,butalsoonthebattlefield,日本和韩国有十几家公司都生产机器人“伙伴”和带小孩的保姆机器人。
例如,日本NEC公司已就面向儿童推出的外型可爱的个人机器人PaPeRo进行了测试:
这款机器人与家庭成员一起住在家里,能够辨识家庭成员的脸、

许多机器人被设计成玩具,但它们也能扮演照看孩子的角色:

夏基教授说:
“对服务型机器人的研究表明,孩子与机器人关系亲密,而且对机器人相当依恋。
在大多数时候,孩子们更喜欢机器人而不是泰迪熊。
短时间的接触能带来令人愉悦的感受,激起孩子的兴趣和好奇心。
但是由于机器人保姆能在身体上保护孩子的安全,可能会造成孩子一天数小时或者几天都不与人接触,不同程度的与社会隔绝对孩子成长可能造成的心理影响目前还不清楚。
”用来照顾老人的娱乐性较弱的机器人也正在开发当中。
日本西科姆公司开发出一种名叫“MySpoon”(我的勺子)的电脑,能够帮助残疾人在桌边进食。
三洋公司也研制出一种电子浴缸机器人,能够自动为行动不便的人擦洗身体。
夏基教授说:
“需要照顾的有小还有老。
许多国家老龄人口与可提供服务的年轻护工的数量相比,处于相对增长状态,这刺激了护理老年人的机器人的发展。
”
“这些机器人能帮助老年人在自己的家中自理,但它们的存在可能会使老年人完全处于机器人照顾之下,从而面临缺乏足够的与人交流机会的危险。

从事机器人技术研究的科学家和工程师必须注意他们的工作可能带来的危险,而公众讨论以及国际讨论也是至关重要的,这样才能为合乎伦理以及安全地应用机器人技术制定政策规范,而不至于等到已经无从制定规范的时候。
”对机器人加以控制的呼吁可以追溯到上世纪40年代,当时科幻小说家艾萨克·阿西莫夫提出了著名的机器人三定律。
第一条规定机器人不得伤害人类;第二条规定机器人必须服从人类的命令,但不得违反第一条定律;第三条规定机器人应尽量保护自己,但不得违反前两条定律。
阿西莫夫撰写了一部科幻小说集,名叫《我,机器人》,探讨了机器与道德的问题。
他想一反科幻小说长期以来把机器人刻画成危险形象———从犹太传说中有生命的泥人到玛丽·雪莱笔下的弗兰肯斯坦———的做法,将机器人三定律作为一种文学工具,探讨有关人类与非人类的智能物交流的伦理问题。
但是20世纪末提出的有关具有高度人工智能的机器人将崛起的预言并未实现,不过机器人科学家已赋予了听命于他们的机器以准智能的特征,比如简单的言语识别、情绪表达以及面部识别等能力。
夏基教授认为,即便是哑巴机器人也必须受到控制。
他说:
“我不是在像阿西莫夫那样为机器人订立伦理规范,而是要对机器人的使用予以规范。
目前机器人的智力水平连愚蠢都算不上。
