OneJune4th,myfamilyandIdecidedtogowhitewaterrafting（急流泛舟）downtheNantahalaRiverinWesternNorthCarolina.Itwasaperfectdaytobeoutonthewater.Myfatherthoughtthatwecouldalldealwithanewsituation,sohedecidedtobringustogowithoutaguideatthisnew,hardcourse.MymomandIwereupsetbymydad’sdecision,butmybrotherwaspleasedwithit.Wegotlifejackets,ourraftandpaddlesthatareusedtorowit,andthentookabustothedroppointwherewecarriedtherafttotheicycoldwater.Havingfinishedthetraining,wewereonourown.

Withinthefirsthour,wegotstuckontworocks.Anotherrafthadtohitourstogetusofftherocks.Afterabouttwohours,wesawahugerockontherightsideoftheriver.Itwascomingoutofthewaterabouttenfeethighandaboutfifteenfeetwide.Somehow,weendedupontopofthisrock.Afteraboutaminute,waterstartedrushinginwheremybrotherwassitting.Whenhestartedfallingintothewater,Itriedtopullhimback.Unfortunately,wefello

fftogether.Mymotherjumpedinafterus,butshecouldonlygettomybrotherbecausehewascloserthanIwas.Mydadjumpedoutandranupthebankoftherivertogettotheroad,sohecouldseewhereIwas.Littletohisknowledge,Iwaspickedupafterabouttwominutesbyastrangerinanotherraftandwasheadingdowntherivertowardalittlerestingspot.IkeptcryingbecauseIwassofrightenedandworriedaboutmyfamily.Thankfully,everyonewasfine,justalittleshakenupandverycold.

Whenwegotbackinourraft,wehadonlytwopaddlesforfourpeople.Weallknewthatitwasgoingtotakeaverylongtimetogettotheend.Oneoftheguidesforanotherrafttoldusthattherewasanearlierplacewecouldgetout,butwewouldhavetocarryourraftaboutaquarterofamile.Atthatpoint,noonereallycaredifwehadtodoanythingafterwegotoutofthewater.Wefinallygottotheendingpoint.Wegotoutofthewater,wetandcold.
