fmillionpeoplerodetheFerriswheel,whichwasnamedafterFerris.Sixplatformswereusedtopickupanddropoffpassengers.Eachridewastwofullturnsofthewheel.Onthefirstturn,itmadesixstopsforloading.Thenthesecondturnwasanonstopnine-minuteride.Eachcarhadfivelargeglasswindowsinfrontandinback,givingeveryoneagreatviewofChicagoandLakeMichigan.

Afterthefairtheridewasmovedtoanearbyamusementparkbuiltespeciallytoshowoffthewheel.In1904itwasmovedagain—thistimetoSt.LouisfortheLouisianaPurchaseExposition.AfterthefairinSt.Louisclosed,thewheelstoodunused.In1906itwasfinallysoldtoapanyforscrap（废弃材料）metal.Ittook200poundsofdynamitetobringitdown.

FortunatelyaChicagobridgebuilder,W.E.Sullivan,figuredouthowtomakeasmallerFerriswheelthatcouldeasilybetakenapartandputtogether.In1906hestartedthepanythatstillmakesmanyoftheFerriswheelsusedtoday.
