ThefirstfewOlympicsafter1994triedtomeettheenvironmentalrequirementscautiously,anditwasin2000thattheIOCenjoyedits“GreenSeptember.”WhentheSydneygamesopenedthatmonth,theywereviewedasthefirst“GreenGames.”ThegovernmenthadpromisedtocleanupnearbyHomebushBay;designershadsparednoeffortstospecifyeco-friendlymaterials;recyclingbinsspreadeverywhere;andthesolar-roofingindustrydevelopedfastalongwiththeOlympicGames.Thankslargelytopromotionfromactivists,majorsponsorsincludingCoca-ColaandMcDonald’salsoagreedtochooselessharmfulfreezingunits(asaresult,Cokeactuallychangeditsglobalfreezingpolicy).Buteventhen,someproblemsarose:
