Restrictingchildren’sabilitytogesturedidnotaffecttheirabilitytocomeupwithcreativeusesfortheobjects;Childrenwhowerefreetogestureproducedaboutthesamenumberofideasasthosewhoworethemittensandcouldnotgesture.
Inasecondexperiment,54childrencompletedthesamealternative-usestask.Insomecases,childrengesturednormally;inothercases,theresearchersencouragedthechildrento“useyourhandstoshowmehowyoucouldusetheobjectindifferentways”.
