Tianwen1,China’sfirstMarsprobe(探测器),successfullyenteredMarsorbitinFebruary,accordingtotheChinaNationalSpaceAdministration(CNSA).Itwillstayinorbitforaboutthreemonthsbeforelandingontheredplanet.
Asmallstepontheredplanetwillbeabigstepforhumanbeings.Humanshavelaunched46MarsexplorationmissionssinceOctober1960,butonly19ofthemhavebeensuccessful,accordingtoChinaDaily.It’sChina’sfirstspacecrafttoMars,andthemissionsareratherambitious.Tianwen1aimstoachieve“orbiting,landing,androving(环绕,着陆,巡视)”allinonejourney,whichwillmakethecountrytheworld’sfirsttoaccomplishallthreegoalswithoneprobe,missionscientistssaid.Amongthethreetasks,touchdownontheredplanetisthemostdifficult.Theresultmainlydependsonthe“breathtakingsevenminutes,”whichwilldeploymultiplecutting-edgetechnologiesandaccuratetimingofeachaction,includingtheburningofenginesandopeningofparachutes(降落伞)toensureasafelanding,accordingtotheGlobalTimes.TheprevioussuccessofChang’e5hasaccumulatedexperienceinthisregardwhich“boostsourconfidence”,WangYa’nan,chiefeditorofBeijing-basedAerospaceKnowledgemagazine,toldtheGlobalTimes.TianwenVsultimategoalistolandaroveronMarsinMayorJune,anditwillconductscientificinvestigationsonMars’soil,geological(地质学的)structure,environment,atmosphereandwater,accordingtoChinaDaily.
FebruarywasMarsmonth.NASA’sPerseveranceRoverlandedonMarsonFeb19,andChina’sTianwen1andUnitedArabEmirates’(UAE)Hopehavearrivedwithinorbitoftheredplanet.AlthoughtheystartedtheirMarsjourneysatalmostthesametime,theirmissionsvary.“Whenwestepintothefarplanetsofthesolarsystem,themagnitude(量级)oftheresourcesandtimelinerequiredwilltakeaglobalcommitment,”USCongressmanFrankLucassaid,highlightingtheimportanceofinternationalcooperationinspace.

Interestingly,thegroupthatusedtheircellphonesduringthebreakwentbacktoworkfeelingthemosttiredandleastmotivatedtocontinue.Theyalsohadthehardesttimesolvingtheremainingwordpuzzles.Thecellphonegrouptook19percentlongertofinishtherestofthetask,andsolved22percentfewerproblemsthanthoseintheotherbreakconditionscombined.
TerriKurtzberg,co-authorofthestudy,explainedthattheyassumedlookingatcellphonesduringabreakwouldbenodifferentfromanyotherbreak—butinstead,thephonemaycauseincreasinglevelsofdistractions(分心)thatmakeitdifficulttoreturnfocusedattentiontoworktasks.“Cellphonesmayhavethiseffectbecauseevenjustseeingyourphoneactivatesthoughtsofcheckingmessages,connectingwithpeople,accesstoever-refillinginformationandmore,inwaysthataredifferentfromhowweuseotherscreenslikecomputers,andlaptops,”KurtzbergtoldScienceDaily.Thisisechoed(呼应)bya2017studyfromtheUSUniversityofChicago.Itfoundthatevenifcellphonesareturnedofforturnedfacedown,theirmerepresencereducesaperson’scognitivecapability(认知能力).
