Likethepost-90sgenerationinChina,today’steenagersintheUKhaveaproblemwithhowthey’rerepresented.Mostofthemfeelunfairlyrepresentedbythemediaandtheirlivesarenegatively（负面地）influenced,saysarecentsurvey.

ThesurveywascarriedoutbytheUKDemos,inwhichmorethan100014-17-year-oldteensfromEnglandandNorthernIrelandtookpart.

Thesurveyreportshowsthatfour-fifthsofteens（81%）felttherewasafalseimageofyoungpeopleinthemediaandwidersociety.Mostofthem（85%）saidthatitishurtingboththeirself-esteem（自尊）andchanceofgettingajob.

ByresearchingsixUKnewspapersoverthepast10years,Demosfoundthatwordsmostcommonlyconnectedwith“teenagers”and“youngpeople”were“binge-drinking”,“yobs”and“crime”.

“Theyoungpeopleouttherearedoinggoodthingsforthecommunity,buttherearealwaysbadthingsonthenews.Butwe’renotalllikethat,it’sonlyafew,”saidBeckyBrunskill,18,memberofYouthParliamentforLiverpool.

Thesurveyalsofoundthat80%ofUKteenagersbelievedtheycaredmoreaboutsocialissuesthantheoldergeneration.Thiswasaviewsharedbytheirteachers,66%ofwhomagreedinaseparateDemossurveyof500teachers.

TheUKyoutharealsoeagertomakeadifference.Butratherthantraditionalpolitics,87%oftheteensbelievedsocialmediawasagoodwaytochangesociety.

JonathanBirdwell,authoroftheDemosreport,said“Theycouldbethemostactivecitizenswehaveseeninageneration.”
