本文探讨了中西方文化差异对英语学习的影响,认为跨文化交际是影响学生学习英语的最主要障碍,包括种族不同、政治文化不同、宗教信仰不同以及社会生活不同。
并提出了提高学习能力的有效策略,如:

Abstract
ThispaperprobesintothedifferencebetweenChineseandWesterncountrieswhichinfluenceourEnglishlearning,analyzingsuchelementsasethniccustoms,politicalandculturaldifference,religiousbelief,andsociallife.Besides,thispaperproposestheeffectivestrategiesofhowtoimproveEnglish,suchasknowingthebackgroundofwesterncountriesandtaboo.

Chapter1Introduction
Inthisrapidlydevelopingsociety,diversifiedeconomiesneedmeeting,negotiations.Eachnationhasitsownuniqueculturalbackgrounds,leadtothedifferencevalues,thinkingmode,andsocialrules.Thecross-culturalcommunicationburgeonsfast,andbecomesthekeypointofourstudy,andturnstothemostimportantpointinEnglishlearning.EnglisheducationistooimportanttohelpChinesegooutoftheworld.MostpeopleisconfusedfortheEnglishlearning.Alotofwordsandsolidgrammarcannotmakepeoplecommunicateflexible;onthecontrarypeoplecanunderstandthemeaningbutcannottosay.Thereareappeared“chinglish”inChinese,andappearedaseriesofjoke,eventhemisunderstanding.Andthenwhywehavenowaytocommunication,theansweristhedifferencebetweenhineseandthewesterncountries,itcontainsthedifferentlanguagewords,differentbackgrounds,anddifferentlanguagecommunications.
Incommunication,accordingtotheresearchofscholarsathome.Andabroad,theinfluenceofculturalismoreimportantthanlanguage.Rosst(1974)claimedinformationthatisofonly35%,andCross-culturalcommunicationmessageisashighas65%.MeBrabia(1968)thought,about93%oftheinformationeffectfactorsderivedChineseandwesternculturaldifferences.
Asweknow,therearesomanydifferencesbetweencultureoftheEastandWestthatIcannotlistalloftheirdifferentaspects.Iwillfocusonthedifferencesofdietcustomandteachingsystem.Foryourbetterunderstanding,IwillsetexamplesofChinaandAmerica.
Chapter2Therelationshipbetweenlanguageandculture
Languageandculturehasacloserelationship.Fromtheperspectiveoftheinstitutionalfeaturesoflanguage,languageisasymbolsystem;itisincludethephonemes,morphemes,wordsandphrases.Sentenceandarticleconstituteofthehierarchysystem.Fromtheperspectiveofthefeaturesoflanguage,languageisatoolofthinking,oratoolforcommunication.Inabroadsense,cultureiscreatedbyhumanintheprocessofsocialandhistoricaldevelopmentofthesumtotalofmaterialwealthandspiritualwealth.Fromthenarrowsense,culturalisknowledgesystemfromhumanculturalvalues.Earlyinthe20softhiscentury,AmericanlinguistE.Sapirinhis"Language"(Language)(1921)pointedout:
"Languageissomethingbehind,andtheLanguagecan'tleaveculture."LinguistPalmersaidinAnIntroductiontoModernLinguistics“languageisthehistoryofthehistoryandcultureofcoordinate,theycanhelpandinspirationtoeachother.”Therelationshipbetweenlanguageandcultureisroughlydividedintofourpoints:
2.1Languageisaveryimportantpartofculture.
Mainlybecauseofthelanguagehavethecharacteristicsoftheculture.Firstly,languageisnotlikebiologicalgenetic,butwhattheylearninthefuture,likeculture.Secondly,cultureisthecommonwealth,ethicallanguagestoo.Thirdly,fromtheperspectiveoftheconnotationofculture,languageincludesthehumanmaterialwealthandspiritualwealth.Languageisthehumancreatedakindofspiritualwealthintheprocessofitsevolutionisapartofculture,bothasauniquehumansociety.Gödel’soncesaid:
"asociety'slanguageisoneaspectofthecultureofthesociety.Therelationshipbetweenlanguageandcultureispartandwhole."Theobtainmentofknowledgeismainlybasedonbooks,sothewide-rangingreadingplaysaveryimportantroleinimprovinglisteningcomprehension.Itnotonlycanenlargeyourfieldofvision,increaseyourknowledge,enlivenyourwayofthinking,strengthenlanguagesense,butalsohaveagreatadvantageofexpandingvocabulary.Itisveryimportantforalllisteners.Fewreadingwillleadtopoorknowledge,whichmakesrigidwayofthinkingandlowabilityofjudging,summingup,inferringandforecasting.Languageasapartofculture,itsparticularitydisplaysin:
itistheimportanttooloflearningculture,peopleinthestudyandapplicationofthewholeprocessofdevelopingculture.
2.2Languagereflectsthecultureofanation.
Throughthelanguageofanationpeoplecanunderstandthatthenationalcustoms,lifestyleandthinkingcharacteristicsofculturalcharacteristics.Forexample,intwolinestoparent’sbrothersandsisterstheappellationtheperformanceformsofthelanguage,therearebigdifferencesinEnglishandChinese.InEnglish,onlyuncle,aunttwowords,inChinese,thereare“bo,shu,gu,jiu,yi”nottomix.ThisphenomenonreflectstheChineseclanconceptandthecharacteristicsofthepatriarchalculture.Languageasapartofculture,itsparticularitydisplaysin:
itistheimportanttooloflearningculture;peopleownthewholecultureinthestudyandapplication.
2.3Languageandculturalhappenedatthesametime.
Languageisthepremiseofculturalformationanddevelopment,culturaldevelopmentalsopromotedthedevelopmentofthelanguageisrich,thelanguageownup,peoplehaveculture.Languageistheimportantsymbolsfrompeopleandanimal.Humancreatedcultureinlanguage,andinturn,cultureaffectsthehuman,causehumanstogreaterprogress.Humanlanguageisthelanguageofhumansociety,ithasmanycloserelationship,withhumansocietyandhumanculture
2.4.Languageisatoolofthinking,andthecompositionoftheculture withoutthinking.
Asthetoolofthinking,languageaffectsandrestrictstheway,thescopeanddepthofthinking.However,whenthinkingdevelopmenttoacertaindegree,languageformcan'tmeettheirneedsorhinderitsdevelopment,peoplewillconsciouslyorunconsciouslytransformationthinkingtool,tomakelanguagechange,inthissense,thinkingisinfluencesandrestrictsthelanguage.
2.5Differentlanguagehavedifferentusefulbecauseofthedifferentculturebackground.
Forexample,whenpeoplemeetatthespecialplace,theyalsoask“areyoueat?
”whentheymeetatrestaurantor“whichbookhaveyouread”whentheymeetatlibrary.Butthewesternpeopleonlysay“hello”

Differentnationsoflanguagearedifferentculture.Wemustattachimportancetoculture,caneliminatethedifferentbetweenlanguages,soastotrulyachievethegoalofculturalcommunication.Itincludesethniccustoms,politicalandculturaldifferences,religiousbeliefs,sociallifeandgeographicregionaldifferences.
3.1.TheinfluenceofethniccustomsdifferencetotheEnglishlearning
Customsispeopletocommunicatewithyouinourdailylife.Languageisdifferentduetopeopledifferentliveenvironment.
Chineseisalsolikethat.Chinesepeopleemphasisoneating,eatingproblemhaslongbeenparticularlyconcernedaboutpeople,sothistopichasbecomeoneofthefavoritediscussiontopic.Peoplealwayspolitetosay“areyoueat?
”whentheymeeting.MostoftheChinesepeopleallknoweatingornoteatingarenotimportant,justgreet,butifyouasktheBritishpeople“areyoueat?
”Hisfirstreactionis"heisgoingtoinvitemetohaveameal?
"Infact,theChineseaskatewhenyoumeetisthesamemeaningasBritishpeoplealwaysasktheweathergoodtoday.Butjustaccordingtotheircustomstoforeigncommunicationcouldmakeeachotheroff.
Chinesepeoplehearpraisefromothersalwayssay“where,where!

”Itmakeswesternersfeelpuzzling.Inthewest,theywillgladlyacceptyourpraiseandsay“thankyou”.Inaddition,Chinesepeoplethinkmarried,celebratebirthdayandtheoldmandiedallisjoyousoccasion.Forwesterners,married,celebratethebirthdayishappythingsforgranted,Englishcalledfestivals“red-letterday”,buttheydon'tunderstandtheoldmandied,inournationalcustoms,physicallawsofnature,theoldmanalifetimewithoutaccidentisajoyousoccasion.SowesternpeoplethinkthisisChina'sspecialpersonality.
ItisnodoubtthatitisatraditiontousechopsticksforChinese.ButpeopleinAmericaprefertoforksandknives.Thisdifferentresultisbasedondifferentfoodtheylike.Americanschoosetoeatbeefsteak,bread,andsalad,whileChinesepeoplechoosenoodles,pancakesandrice.Whatismore,thecustomofdrinkingteainChinaanddrinkingcoffeeinAmericaarestandoutparticularly.However,thereisatrendthatthefoodinbothcountrieshasbeenmixture.Forexample,thecoffeeandbreadhaveintroducedtoChina.ThefamousKFCisverypopu
