1Introduction

ThisinstructionfileforWordusers（thereisaseparateinstructionfileforLaTeXusers）maybeusedasatemplate.KindlysendthefinalandcheckedWordandPDFfilesofyourpapertotheContactVolumeEditor.Thisisusuallyoneoftheorganizersoftheconference.YoushouldmakesurethattheWordandthePDFfilesareidenticalandcorrectandthatonlyoneversionofyourpaperissent.Itisnotpossibletoupdatefilesatalaterstage.Pleasenotethatwedonotneedtheprintedpaper.

Wewouldliketodrawyourattentiontothefactthatitisnotpossibletomodifyapaperinanyway,onceithasbeenpublished.Thisappliestoboththeprintedbookandtheonlineversionofthepublication.Everydetail,includingtheorderofthenamesoftheauthors,shouldbecheckedbeforethepaperissenttotheVolumeEditors.

1.1CheckingthePDFFile

KindlyassurethattheContactVolumeEditorisgiventhenameandemailaddressofthecontactauthorforyourpaper.TheContactVolumeEditorusesthesedetailstocompilealistforourproductiondepartmentatSPSinIndia.Oncethefileshavebeenworkedupon,SPSsendsacopyofthefinalpdfofeachpapertoitscontactauthor.Thecontactauthorisaskedtocheckthroughthefinalpdftomakesurethatnoerrorshavecreptinduringthetransferorpreparationofthefiles.Thisshouldnotbeseenasanopportunitytoupdateorcopyeditthepapers,whichisnotpossibleduetotimeconstraints.Onlyerrorsintroducedduringthepreparationofthefileswillbecorrected.

ThisroundofcheckingtakesplaceabouttwoweeksafterthefileshavebeensenttotheEditorialbytheContactVolumeEditor,i.e.,roughlysevenweeksbeforethestartoftheconferenceforconferenceproceedings,orsevenweeksbeforethevolumeleavestheprinter’s,forpost-proceedings.IfSPSdoesnotreceiveareplyfromaparticularcontactauthor,withinthetimeframegiven,thenitispresumedthattheauthorhasfoundnoerrorsinthepaper.ThetightpublicationscheduleofLNCSdoesnotallowSPStosendremindersorsearchforalternativeemailaddressesontheInternet.

Insomecases,itistheContactVolumeEditorthatchecksallthepdfs.Insuchcases,theauthorsarenotinvolvedinthecheckingphase.

2PaperPreparation

Theprintingareais122mm×193mm.Thetextshouldbejustifiedtooccupythefulllinewidth,sothattherightmarginisnotragged,withwordshyphenatedasappropriate.Pleasefillpagessothatthelengthofthetextisnolessthan180mm,ifpossible.

Use10-pointtypeforthename（s）oftheauthor（s）and9-pointtypefortheaddress（es）andtheabstract.Forthemaintext,pleaseuse10-pointtypeandsingle-linespacing.WerecommendtheuseofComputerModernRomanorTimes.Italictypemaybeusedtoemphasizewordsinrunningtext.Boldtypeandunderliningshouldbeavoided.

PapersnotcomplyingwiththeLNCSstylewillbereformatted.Thiscanleadtoanincreaseintheoverallnumberofpages.Wewouldthereforeurgeyounottosquashyourpaper.

Headings.Headingsshouldbecapitalized（i.e.,nouns,verbs,andallotherwordsexceptarticles,prepositions,andconjunctionsshouldbesetwithaninitialcapital）andshould,withtheexceptionofthetitle,bealignedtotheleft.Wordsjoinedbyahyphenaresubjecttoaspecialrule.Ifthefirstwordcanstandalone,thesecondwordshouldbecapitalized.ThefontsizesaregiveninTable1.

2.1Figures

Pleasecheckthatthelinesinlinedrawingsarenotinterruptedandhaveaconstantwidth.Gridsanddetailswithinthefiguresmustbeclearlylegibleandmaynotbewrittenoneontopoftheother.Linedrawingsshouldhavearesolutionofatleast800dpi（preferably1200dpi）.Theletteringinfiguresshouldhaveaheightof2mm（10-pointtype）.Figuresshouldbenumberedandshouldhaveacaptionwhichshouldalwaysbepositionedunderthefigures,incontrasttothecaptionbelongingtoatable,whichshouldalwaysappearabovethetable.Pleasecenterthecaptionsbetweenthemarginsandsetthemin9-pointtype（Fig. 1showsanexample）.Thedistancebetweentextandfigureshouldbeabout8mm,thedistancebetweenfigureandcaptionabout6mm.

Toensurethatthereproductionofyourillustrationsisofareasonablequality,weadviseagainsttheuseofshading.Thecontrastshouldbeaspronouncedaspossible.

Ifscreenshotsarenecessary,pleasemakesurethatyouarehappywiththeprintqualitybeforeyousendthefiles.

Remark1.Intheprintedvolumes,illustrationsaregenerallyblackandwhite（halftones）,andonlyinexceptionalcases,andiftheauthorispreparedtocovertheextracostsinvolved,arecoloredpicturesaccepted.Coloredpicturesarewelcomeintheelectronicversionfreeofcharge.Ifyousendcoloredfiguresthataretobeprintedinblackandwhite,pleasemakesurethattheyreallyarelegibleinblackandwhite.Somecolorsshowupverypoorlywhenprintedinblackandwhite.
