Bulkcementtransportapparatus
Abstract
Abulkmaterialtransportapparatus,suchasatruckortrailer,havingatleastonebulkmaterialpressurevesselmountedthereon.Thepressurevesselisprovidedwithatleastonesealablehatchopening,afirstportandasecondportallofwhichareoffsetfromtheapexofatorisphericaltopportionofthepressurevessel.Thepressurevesselisprovidedwithatleastonedischargeportlocatedinatoriconicalbottomportionthereofandisalsoprovidedwithairinletmeansforintroducingpressurizedairintothevessel.Anoperatorplatformbeingpositionedatapreselecteddistancefromtheoffsethatchopeningandbeingwithinsuchproximityoftheoffsethatchopeningsoastoenableanoperatorpositionedontheoperatorplatformtogainaccesstotheinteriorofthepressurevesselthroughthehatchopeningisprovided.
Background
Theuseofmobilepressurevesselstotransportdrygranularbulkcementisroutinelyusedinthetreatingofoilandgasproductionwells.Typically,priorartvesselshaveatoriconical,orfunnel,shapedbottomportion,averticalcylindricalsidewall,andatorispherical,ordomeshaped,topportion.Thevesselsaretypicallymountedintandemonatruckbedoronatractortrailer,whereuponthevesselscanbetransportedtoand/orstoredatthesiteofanoilorgaswell.Thevesselsaredesignedtoallowcementtobeloadedintothevesselviaare-closablehatchlocatedonthedomedtopportionofthevesselpriortobeingtransportedtothewellsiteand/orwhilethevesselsarelocatedatthewellsite.Somepriorartvesselsareadditionallydesignedtoallowforthepneumaticconveyanceofthecementintothevessel.Cementisconveyedoutofthevesselviaanexternalairsupplyandaeratorsandplumbinglocatedwithinandaboutthevessels.Afterbeingconveyedoutofthevessel,thecementisroutinelypipedintoaseparator,whichservestoreduceand/oreliminatecementplugflowandunwantedcementdust.Thecementisthenultimatelypipedtoamixerwherecement,water,andperhapsselectedadditivesaremixedtogetherpriortobeingpumpeddownhole.
Alltoooften,during,orinpreparationoftheconveyanceofthecementlocatedwithinvesselsatajob-site,itbecomesnecessarytogainaccesstotheinteriorofthepriorartvesselstodislodgecementthathasbecomelodgedwithinthevesselforonereasonoranotherincludingthecementadhering,orcaking,toitselfortothesidewallsofthevessel.Inordertogainaccesstotheinteriorofthevesselforinspection,tocheckontheconditionofthecementcurrentlytherein,ortoattempttodislodgecakedcement,anequipmentoperatormayhavetoscrambleontothetopofthevesseltoreachthroughthehatchlocatedthereon.Ataminimumthisisaninconvenience,andduringinclementweather,scramblingonthedomed-shapedtopofavesselhavingiceorrainontheoutersurfacecanposeahazardtotheoperator.
Thus,thereisaneedforamobilebulkcementpressurevesselinwhichaccesscanbegainedtotheinteriorthereofwithaminimumofinconvenienceandtominimizeanylossoffootingtotheoperator.
Anothershortcomingwithpriorartmobilebulkcementpressurevessels,especiallywithvesselsmountedinatandemarrangement,thatisonevesselmountedlongitudinallyinfrontoftheother,isthateachvessel,ortank,isspecificallyconstructedtobemountedattheforwardpositionoraftpositionofthetruckbody,trailer,orothermobileplatform.Eachvesselalsoaccommodatesmanifolding,piping,andventingspecifictoeithertheforwardmountedvesselortheaftmountedvessel.Forexample,certainpipingwillbepositionedontheforwardtankandtherearwardtankforremovingthebulkmaterial,orcement,fromthetanksandintroducingittoaseparatorwhichisoftenlocatedaftoftherearwardvessel.Economicsandphysicallimitationsusuallyrequirethatthepipingberoutedbythemostdirectroute,andthuseachvesselwillhaveportsandpipingdesignedspecificallyforthatvessel'slocation.Therefore,inatypicaltandemvesselarrangement,therewillbeaforwardvessel,withappropriatelylocatedmountinglugsandports,andarearwardvesselalsohavingappropriatelylocatedmountinglugsandports.Suchanarrangementrequiresthedesignandfabricationoftwodiffering,location-specificseparatevessels,aswellasthecostsandtimerequiredforobtainingpressurevesselcodeapprovalandformaintainingandupdatingrevisedshopandmaintenancedrawingsforeachvesselandrespectivelyspecificpipingandmanfolding.
Furthermore,whenaparticularvessel,orcomponent,mustbereplaced,itmustbeorderedbyaspecificpartnumberorothermeansofpositiveidentification.Forexample,itmustbemadeclearwhetheraforwardpositionedvesselorcomponentisneeded,orwhetherarearwardpositionedvesselorcomponentisneeded,fromeithertheoriginalfabricatororaregionalwarehouse.Thiscanbecomequiteachoreandinconveniencewhenaparticularvesselorrelatedcomponentisdamagedinremotefieldlocationsthroughouttheworldassuchlocationsoftentimeshavelessthanidealcommunicationandtransportationlinks.
Thus,thereisaneedforbulkmaterialtransportandstorageunitsthatmayreadilybeusedinatandemarrangementineitheraforwardpositionorarearwardpositiontoreducethenecessityofdesigningandfabricatingtwodifferentvesselstomeetapplicablepressurevesselcodes,aswellasmaintainingandwarehousingbulkmaterialvesselsandrelatedcomponentsspecificallydesignedandconstructedforparticularlocationsonatruckbody,trailer,orothermobileplatform.
Summaryoftheinvention
Theaboveobjectsandneedsarefulfilledbythedisclosedbulkmaterialtransportapparatus.Theapparatusincludesamobilebasehavingatleastone,andpreferablytwobulkmaterialpressurevesselsmountedthereoninatandemarrangement.Thevesselshaveatorisphericaltopportionhavinganapex,asidewallportion,andatoriconicalbottomportionhavinganapex.Thepressurevesselshaveatleastonesealablehatchopeninglocatedonthetorisphericaltopportionthereofandthehatchisoffsetfromtheapexofthetopportion.Thepressurevesselsfurtherhaveafirstportandasecondportlocatedinthetopportion,eachofwhichareoffsetfromtheapexofthetopportion.Thesecondportislocatedoppositethefirstportwithrespecttotheapexofthetopportion.Thepressurevesselsarefurtherprovidedwithatleastonedischargeportlocatedinthebottomportionthereof.Additionally,thepressurevesselsareprovidedwithairinletmeansforintroducingpressurizedairintothevessel.Anoperatorplatformbeinginterposedbetweenatleastonesuchpairofpressurevesselsarrangedintandemrelationship.Theplatformispositionedatapreselecteddistancefromeachoftheoffsethatchopeningsandiswithinsuchproximityoftheoffsethatchopeningsofeachpressurevesselcommontotheplatformsoastoenableanoperatorpositionedontheoperatorplatformtoviewandgainaccesstotheinteriorofeachpressurevesselthroughtheoffsethatchopeninglocatedineachvessel.
Preferably,thedischargeportofeachofthepressurevesselsarrangedintandemisoffsetfromtheapexoftheconicalbottomportionandisprovidedwithaseconddischargeportsymmetricallylocatedandpositionedoppositethefirstdischargeportenablingeachofthevesselsarrangedintandemtobefullyinterchangeablewithoneanotherwhenthevesselsarerotatedapproximately180°aboutthevessels'verticalaxis.
Preferably,eachofthepressurevesselsarrangedintandemisprovidedwithapluralityofsymmetricallypositionedpipingbracketslocatedabouttheperipheryofthesidewallatpreselectedlocations.
Preferably,eachofthepressurevesselsarrangedintandemisprovidedwithmeansforremovableandinterchangeablysecuringeachpressurevesseltoeitherofthevesselpositionswithinthetandemarrangement.
Preferably,aventpipemeansisprovidedandisremovableattachedtooneoftheportslocatedonthetopportionofeachpairedvesselandisroutedtoconvergeandeventuallyjoinwiththeadjacentventpipemeansatapreselectedpositionbetweeneachvesselonapreselectedsidethereof.Also,abulkmaterialinletpipemeansisprovidedandisremovableattachedtooneoftheremainingportslocatedonthetopportionofeachpairedvesselandeachmaterialinletpipemeansisroutedtoconvergeandeventuallyjoinwiththeadjacentbulkmaterialinletpipemeansatapreselectedpositionbetweeneachvesselonapreselectedsidethereof.Additionallyprovidedisabulkmaterialdischargepipemeansbeingremovableattachedtooneofthedischargeportslocatedonthebottomportionofthevesselandeachbulkmaterialdischargepipemeansbeingroutedgenerallyparalleltothemobilebaseonapreselectedsidethereof.Finally,meansforintroducingpressurizedair,orgas,intoeachpairedvesselisprovided.
Tandembulkmaterialtransporttruck
Bulkmaterialstoredinthepressurevesselsmaybeevacuatedindividually,orincombination,viathedischargeportsandassociatedmanfoldingandpipingofeachvessel.Thebulkmaterialisevacuatedfromthevesselsbyintroducingpressurizedair,orothergas,intovessels,viainletportsandrespectively,bywayofaflexiblehose,line,orpiping(notshown)andoriginatingfromapressurizedairsupply(notshown).Theflowrateofthematerialbeingevacuatediscontrolledbyadjustingtheinletairpressureandifneedbe,bymakingadjustmentstoseparator,ifbeingroutedtherethrough.
