GoingtoaBritishhighschoolforoneyearwasaveryenjoyableandexcitingexperienceforme.IwasveryhappywiththeschoolhoursinBritainbecauseschoolstartsaround9a.m.andendsabout3.30p.m.ThismeansIcouldgetupanhourlaterthanusual,asschoolsinChinabeginbefore8a.m.
Onthefirstday,allofthenewstudentsattendedanassemblyintheschoolhall.IsatnexttoagirlwhosenamewasDiane.Wesoonbecamebestfriends.Duringtheassembly,theheadmastertoldusabouttherulesoftheschool.Healsotoldusthatthebestwaytoearnrespectwastodevoteourselvestostudyandachievehighgrades.ThissoundedlikemyschoolinChina.
Ihadmanyteachersinthepastyear.MrHeywood,myclassteacher,wasveryhelpful.MyfavouriteteacherwasMissBurke-IlovedthelessonsthatshegaveinEnglishLiterature.Inourclasstherewere28students.ThisisabouttheaveragesizeforBritishschools.Wehadtomovetodifferentclassroomsfordifferentclasses.Wealsohaddifferentstudentsinsomeclasses,soitwasastruggleformetorememberallthefacesandnames.
IfoundthehomeworkwasnotasheavyaswhatIusedtogetinmyoldschool.However,itwasabitchallengingformeatfirst,becauseallthehomeworkwasinEnglish.Ifeltlucky,asallmyteachersgavememuchencouragementandIenjoyedallmysubjects:
English,History,EnglishLiterature,ComputerScience,Maths,Science,PE,Art,CookingandFrench.
MyEnglishimprovedalotasIusedEnglisheverydayandspentanhoureachdayreadingEnglishbooksinthelibrary.IusuallywenttotheComputerClubduringthelunchbreak,soIcouldsende-mailstomyfamilyandfriendsbackhomeforfree.IalsohadanextraFrenchclassonTuesdayevenings.CookingwasreallyfunasIlearnedhowtobuy,prepareandcookfood.Attheendoftermweheldaclasspartyandweallhadtocooksomething.IwasgladthatallmyclassmateswerefondofthecakethatImade.
StudentsatthatschoolhavetostudyMaths,EnglishandScience,butcanstopstudyingsomesubjectsiftheydon’tlikethem,forexample,History,FrenchandArt.TheycanchooseothersubjectslikeWoodwork,ComputerScienceorLanguages,suchasSpanish,German.InArtclassthatItook,Imadeasmallsculpture.Thoughitdidnotlookverybeautifulwhenitwasfinished,Istilllikeditverymuch..

Wehavearadioclubinourschool.Itisgreatbecauseitisrunbythestudentsfortheschool.IamluckyasIamoneofthehosts.
Itwasstartedtwoyearsago.Oneday,Ijustbeganthinkingaboutmusicforeveryone,soIaskedtheheadmasterifmusiccouldbeplayedduringbreaktimes.Heapprovedtheidea,andtwoyearslaterIaminchargeoftheradioclubastheoldeststudentmember.Ourclubismuchmorethanjustmusic.Everymorningwetellourschoolmatesabouttheweather,recentnews,andsomespecialmessagesthattheteacherswantustobroadcast.
Duringexamtimewehaveaspecialprogrammethattellsstudentsthethingstheyshoulddoforpreparation.Attheendoftheschoolyear,manystudentswhoaregraduatinguseourclubtogivemessagestotheirclosefriendsandteachers.
Whenparentscometovisittheschoolandtalktotheteachers,weoftenplaysongssungbystudents,andwealsogivemessagestoinformtheparentsofeventssuchasoutingsandschoolplays.
