《品爱》,夏洛蒂*勃朗特最优秀的一部文学作品,•八四七年问世,就被看做是英国小说中最受欢迎的一部。
其结构娴熟,主题隽永,语言完美,炉火纯青,表现了作者高超的艺术技术和语言天赋.正因为其语言风格独特,用词寓意深刻,句式变幻复杂,形式多样,人物语S丰硕高雅,造成了翻译的复杂性和困难性。
因此对该作品的翻译研究对整个文学翻译研究有着必然的有效价值。
第一,依照语义对等和风格对等翻译原那么,本文对别离由祝庆英和黄源深翻译的《简爱》两个译本从意义转换和风格转换两个方面作了较为系统详细的对照研究,
在意义转换对照中,本文将刘宓庆对意义的概念与分类和语义学语用学理论相结合,比较了两个译本在语义对等方面的好坏得失,并探讨了语义分析在文学翻译中的重要性。
在风格转换对照中,本文从两个方面比较了两个译本一对叙事性语言的再现和对对话语g的再现。
因为在小说中,叙事性语言和对话语言是原作风格的重要表现。
这两方面的移译是评判译本是不是再现原作风格的大体依据。
第二,对两位译者所采纳的翻译方式进行了比较。
在翻译实践中,每一个译者都有一些指导原那么,区别在于自觉与不自觉。
在这些原那么的指导下,译者选择如何来翻译作品。
研究译者的指导思想和翻译方式对评判译本具有很重要的意义。
因此,依照异化法和归化法这两种不同的翻译方式,本文对两位译者所釆用的翻译方式进行了比较。
通过对照研究,作者发觉两位译者采纳了两种不同的翻译策略来翻译原文,从而使译
本产生了不同的成效。
文学翻译是一种再创作。
其最高标准是实现语义和风格最切近最自
然的对等统一。
尽管由于英汉语言的不同,绝对的对等是不可能的,但最切近最自然的对等翻译应是译者不断尽力的目标。

Abstract
Sinceitspublicationin1947,JaneEyre,CharlotteBronte’sbestliteraryproduction,hasbeenconsideredoneofthemostpopularofallEnglishnovels.Inthisnovel,CharlotteBrontedisplaysamarveloustalentinlanguagebyherflexibleuseofvariouslinguisticdevices.Allsuchsemanticandstylisticfeatures,liketheoriginaldictionwithrichculturalinformation,diversesyntacticstructuresandelegantlanguage,distinguishthenovelfromothersandmeanwhileposegreatdifficultyintheprocessoftranslatingfromEnglishintoChinese.Therefore,thestudyoftheChineseversionsofJaneEyrewillbeofgreatvaluestothestudyofliterarytranslation.
Firstly,accordingtothetranslatingprinciplesofsemanticequivalenceandstylisticequivalence,thisdissertationmakesasystematicanddetailedcomparisonofthetwoChineseversionsofJaneEyre,whicharetranslatedbyZhuQingyingandHuangYuanshenrespectively.Thetranslationcritiquegoesforwardfromtwoaspects:
meaningtransferenceandstyletransference.
Duringthecomparisonofmeaningtransference,thisdissertationcombinesMr.LiuMiqing’sdefinitionandclassificationofmeaningwithsomesemanticandpragmatictheoriestoevaluatewhetherthetypesofmeaningsaretransferredinthetwotranslationsandtodiscusstheimportanceofsemanticanalysisinliterarytranslation.
Astothetransferenceofthestyle,thisdissertationcomparesthetwoversionsfromtwoaspects—reproductionofthenarrativelanguageandreproductionofthelanguagecharacteristicsofthedialogues,sinceinfictionthereisalwaysacontrastbetweenthestylesofnarrativelanguage~thelanguagethewriterusestotellthestory,andofconversationallanguage—thelanguagethecharactersuseintheirdialogues.
Secondly,thetranslationmethodsadoptedbythetwotranslatorsarecompared.Alltranslators,whetherconsciouslyorunconsciously,wouldbasetheirworkoncertainprinciplesoftranslation.Undertheguidanceoftheseprinciples,translatorsdecidewhattheyshoulddoandhowthetranslationshouldbedone.Acarefulstudyofthetranslators,principleswillhelpusexaminetheirtranslations.Thusthetwodifferentmethodsadoptedbythetwotranslatorswillbecomparedaccordingtotwodifferenttranslationmethods,thatisforeignizationanddomestication.
Throughthecomparison,thepresentauthorfindsthatthetwotranslatorsmakeuseoftwodifferentmeanstohandlecertainlinguisticphenomena,andintheendthetwotranslationshavedifferenteffectsonthereaders.Literarytranslationisakindofre-creation.Thehighestlevelofliterarytranslationistoachievetheclosestnaturalequivalenceinmeaningandstyle.AlthoughabsoluteequivalenceisimpossiblebecauseofthedifferencesbetweenEnglishandChinese,theclosestnaturalequivalenttranslationistheaimthattranslatorsmustseek.

1.1ReasonsfortheComparisonofDifferentVersionsofJaneEyre
ThisdissertationaimstomakeacomparativestudyofthetwoChineseversionsofJaneEyre.Whychoosethistopic?
Thereasonsareasfollows:
(1)TheretranslatingofthenovelJaneEyrewillinevitablyexist.
Sinceitspublication,JaneEyrehasbeenconsideredoneofthemostpopularofallEnglishnovels.Havingprofoundthoughtandelegantlanguage,itiswellreceivedbythereadersandisagloriousstarintheliteraryworld.Allthismakesitworthrenderingagain.Thus,theretranslatingofthenovelJaneEyrewillinevitablyexist.Throughthecomparisonofdifferentversions,aseriesofimportantproblemsabouttranslationcanbeexamined.Peoplewhowanttoretranslatethisnovelmaylearnmuchfromtheexistingproblems,andmaketheirowntranslationsbetter.
(2)TherearerelativelyfewerstudiesonthecomparisonofdifferentversionsofJamEyre.
SinceJaneEyrewaspublishedin1847,therehavebeenmanyarticlescommentingonit.However,thisisnotthecasewiththeChineseversionsofJaneEyre.SinceitsfirstcompleteversionbyLiJiyec^mcintobeingin1936,newversionshavesuccessivelyappeared.Forexample,ZhuQingying'sversionin1980publishedbyShanghaiYiWenPress,HuangYuanshen,sin1994byYiLinPress,WuJunxie:
sin1995bythePeople’sLiteraturePublishingHouse,GuoShenandLiuZhen’sin1999byAnhuiLiteratureandArtPress,etc.(ZhengXueqing,2000:
108)Theversionsexertatremendousinfluenceuponthereaders,butthepublishedessaysabouttheseversionsorthecomparisonoftheseversionsarerelativelyfewer.Therefore,thewriterofthisdissertationwouldliketomakeacomparativestudyofthetwoChineseversionsofJaneEyre,whicharerespectivelytranslatedbyZhuQingyingandHuangYuanshen,throughwhichthewritertriestoinquireintothewaystomakethetranslationasperfectaspossibleandoffersomereferenceforthepracticeoffictiontranslation.

Inthissection,IwillgiveabriefaccountofCharlotteBronte,hernovelJaneEyreandthetwoChineseversions,sincesomeknowledgeofthebackgroundwill
helpusunderstandJaneEyreanditsversionsbetter.
1.2.1CharlotteBronteandHerWorks
CharlotteBronte,theEnglishwomannovelistofthe19thcentury,wasborninThornton,Yorkshire,inthenorthofEnglandin1816.Shewasthethirdchildinaboisterousfamilyofoneboyandfivegirls.HerfatherwasanAnglicanclergyman.In1820,herfamilymovedtoHaworthamidtheYorkshiremoors.In1824,CharlotteattendedtheClergyDaughter’sSchoolatCowanBridge.Shereturnedhomenextyearbecauseoftheharshconditions.In1831shewenttoschoolatRoeHead,whereshelaterworkedasateacherAfterthat,sheservedasgovernesstwice.In1846sheandhertwosisterspublishedasmallvolumeofthecollectedpoems,PoemsbyCurrer,EllisandActonBell,BythistimeshehadfinishedherfirstnovelTheProfessor,butitneverfoundapublisherduringherlifetime.In1847hernovelJaneEyrewaspublishedwithgreatsuccess.LaterShirley(1849)andVillette(1853)cameintobeing.Shediedin1855.
Inherthreeprincipalnovels,JaneEyre,ShirleyandVillette,CharlotteBronteshowsherselfacriticalrealistwhoattacksthegreed,pettytyrannyandlackofcultureamongthebourgeoisieandsympathizeswiththesufferingsofthepoorpeople.(LiuBingshan,1993:

1.2.2AboutJaneEyre
JaneEyre,CharlotteBronte’sbestliteraryproduction,isintheformofafictionalautobiography.Inthewritingofit,CharlotteBrontedrewagreatdealfromherownlifeexperience.HersufferingsintheboardingschoolatCowanBridgeandherlifeasagovernessareallreflectedinthenovel.InJaneEyre,shecreatedtheimageofastrong,passionateyoungwomanseekingindependenceandequalstatusinsociety.
YoungJaneEyrewasorphanedandsenttolivewithheruncleMr.Reed,whodiedshortlyafterherarrival.ThenshewasdeliveredtothehandofMrs.Reed.Mrs,ReedandherchildrentreatedJanewithmiserablecruelty.Mentalandbodilysufferingarousedhertofightagainstthefamily,asaresult,shewassenttoLowoodInstitution,acharityschoolwhereshewasmaltreatedbytheauthoritiesandledahalf-starvedexistence.Thereshepassedeightyearsasstudentandtwoasteacher.Thenshelefttheschool
