Agoodexampleofthisoccurredwithagroupofdogs.Theywereshutinanareathatwasbeingshakenbyaseriesoftinyearthquakes.(Severalsmallquakesoftencomebeforeorafteralargeone.)Beforeeachquakealowboomingsoundwasheard.Eachboomcausedthedogstobarkwildly.Thenthedogsbegantobarkduringasilentperiod.Ascientistwhowasrecordingquakeslookedathismachine.Itwasactingasthoughtherewerealoudnoisetoo.Thescientistrealizedthatthedogshadreactedtoaboomingnoise.Theyalsosensedthetinyquakethatfollowedit.Themachinerecordedboth,thoughhumansfeltandheardnothing.
