Thistheorymadesense,untilitwaslaterfoundthatalgaedonotplayapartintheredcoloroftheflowingliquidatall.WhatreallycausesTalorGlacier’swatersappearbloodred,isthepresenceofironoxideintheliquid.Thewatersofthebloodfallsarerichinsaltandironcontent,andwhenthiswatercomesincontactwiththeair,itturnsred—justlikerust!
Thewaterinthesefallsisoftenreferredtoas“brine”byscientistsbecauseofthehighsaltcontentinthewater.
Thisreasoningbehindtheredcolorsofthefallswasfoundbackin2003.However,theentiremysteryhadnotyetbeensolved.Howisitthen,thattheBloodFallsarenotfrozen?
